Tuesday's "meet and greet"

The Three Gulmusketeers are a pack of trouble. They slip through fences and go wherever they please, to the fright of their mothers - and sometimes themselves! They seem as bonded to each other as they are to their dams, and I think it will be awhile before the Mighty Mites, as I've taken to calling the three younger lambs, will be able to stand up to the older gang of hoodlums. But first, the Mighty Mites will have to form an alliance of their own!

To that end, yesterday I haltered Butter and Brava and led them out to eat grass and give their lambs their first opportunity to mingle and play together. Barabbas seemed both confused and intrigued by Beau's and Boo's ability to run fast and jump high; another day or two and he'll keep up with his two smaller half-brothers.
In the meantime, Beau and Boo ventured off together to explore:I think the hens are bigger than they are!

Barabbas:This ram lamb with the huge horn buds is so stunning that I find myself weakening on my resolve to go polled. Hopefully someone will think he will be the perfect flock sire for their Shetland sheep, and remove temptation!

Finally, a shot of Bronwen, taken this morning. She is Rick's pick of the two ewe lambs, and I have to agree - she has presence, pattern, and plush (as in a very dense lamb fleece). She has also been wild as a deer since birth, but I think I'm finally breaking through her irrational fear and proving that humans can make a little lamb feel good. Inky's twins need no convincing; both are little lovebugs.

That's it for now at . . .

Never a pack of lamby hoodlums have I seen! I hope they are too hard on the mighty mite! Of course I think the Mites have the advantage once Barabbas figures out his limbs. ;-)

They are so stinking cute. Makes me just want to gather them up for a squeeze.

Such cuties... Bronwen has had my heart and favor from the beginning. There's just something about her -- presence I'm sure.

And there's nothing wrong with a couple cutie little horn buds! We love 'em around here. ;) *wink wink* LOL

Barabas is sooo handsome. It would be hard to let him go I would think. Your lambs are just precious. I can't get over how small they are. No wonder everyone loves shetlands!

Oh my - what gorgeous lambs! I wish I had room for a horned ram!!! And I agree with yours and Rick's ewe-pick. She is beautiful. I think you need some more sheep to eat up that lush grass, though!!! I am incredibly jealous.

Unfortunately, Heather, all that lush grass isn't fenced for sheep, and the pasture that IS fenced for sheep is not that lush after having the sheep on it this winter! I would love to have everything fenced for sheep so I could rotate them through, as well as the horses, but that takes money and the cooperation of the husband, neither of which I have. I have learned that the sheep eagerly eat one of our invasive weeds that the horses won't touch - wild onion/garlic (I've heard it called both), so it would be wonderful to be able to use the sheep as natural "herbicides."

I love the lamb/chicken pics, and yes I think the chickens are bigger. They look so cuddly.

What a bunch of cuties!!! I think you have a couple of "keepers" in that small herd. :)

Very cute names for the lambs. Let me get it straight, the Gulmuskuteers are the older trio often referred to as the hooligans. And the younger trio, including the latest big boy are the Mighty Mites - I love it!!
Also, this is the first sight I've had of the feathered ladies - my egg suppliers...would love to see some pics of them. I think some chickens are just beautiful!
