In the garden

I'm actually a wee bit excited to type that, although I'm glad that the weeding and the watering and the weeding and the picking (and the weeding) and the preserving won't start for awhile yet.

Today I hauled a wagonload of chicken poop and shavings up to the garden, and noticed LIFE. The parsley I planted last year is a big, lush mound (tabuloui, here we come!),
rhubarb is pushing up through the dirt,
and the strawberries are soaking up all the sun they can.
The caneberries are still dormant,
but the blueberries are beginning to bud.

Katie is also starting to "bud"! She's the only one of the four ewes I bred who looks pregnant. Lambing should start in four weeks; I wonder how many I will get? I'll have to post a lambing contest in a couple weeks and have you help me guess. I'd better start thinking about prizes!

That's it for now from . . .

Your garden photos are a source of evil punishment! Seriously, strawberry plants? I have to dig really dig into the ice layer to find grass;) Are you hoping for lots of ram lambs this year? Just kidding! Had to get you back for the garden pics:)

I'll have to run out tomorrow and check my rhubarb. I pulled out my strawberries last year so have to plant new this year. What are cane berries? Think they'd grow over here on the coast? We had twin ewes the other day. Both are healthy, tho momma stepped on one and she's limping...

looks great! my parsley wintered well and I am enjoying it as one of the few fresh things this time of year... will you share your recipe for tabuloui ? I'm giving up dairy and sugar (including fruit) for a while to get some things straightened out and looking for good salads/ sides...

And we've finally had some much needed snow! It's wonderful to take a pre-spring walk in your garden though!

Thanks for the uplifting signs of spring, it's much appreciated. We're still enjoying (!!) winter here.

Kristi, I am actually hoping for at least one ram lamb, because someone has requested one! Sorry to torture you with green things.... ;-)

Cariann, I haven't made tabuloui for quite awhile, so I don't know if I even have a recipe! Norma Turner made a great one for a church function so I'm going to ask for HER recipe and will share it.

Ruth, cane berries are those that grow on canes - raspberries, blackberries, etc. If you have wild blackberries over on the coast, then you can grow cane berries! Hopefully your lamb will be fine; sometimes those limps are temporary.

Come on spring. This time of year I get very anxious for some sign of life, so thanks for reassuring me that it still exists somewhere.

Sigh...all the green makes me wish spring here was closer. My garden is under a 5 ft snow drift. But your photos help me remember that spring will eventually come.

Inspiring garden photos!

Only one of my Shetlands looks obviously pregnant, too. We've got 5 weeks to go, so hopefully the rest will start to show soon. Good for you having a ram lamb reserved!

Franna - in Auburn, WA where the signs of spring aren't so definate.
