Lamby love

Barry was the first to figure out how fine the shepherd's fingers feel.

Banjo took a few days longer but fell to the spell this morning.

Since these two are prime candidates for fiber pets (Barry because of his uncertain parentage and Banjo because of his cow hocks), I can cuddle them to my heart's content. I still catch Blake and Bodhran so they understand that I am not going to kill them as they fear (or at least as Blake fears), but since they are ram candidates, they can't be pets.

It is cherry blossom time at Boulderneigh. And finally, we're having warm enough weather that the bees are out pollinating; maybe we'll have some cherries after all!

Our double-flowering cherry is just starting to bloom; it may not produce fruit, but what a glorious sight it is in spring!

And now, with an apology to those of you on dial-up, I bring you lamb races! In the first one the lambs are fresh and fast; then Bodhran comes up to investigate. Everyone is taking a breather in video #2, and then a certain sweetie comes running up to me. In the last one, the tiring lambs stand around a bit, but can't resist one more race in the end. Enjoy!

That's it for now from . . .

They are so gorgeous and I love their names Barry & Banjo. I could watch lambs run and play all day, so cute :)

What are cow hocks and why are they bad? Those guys are SO CUTE!

Cow hocks are like being "knock-kneed," only in the rear; the hocks are the middle joints on the hind legs. Nothing structurally wrong with it, really; it is just not ideal conformation for a sheep, and a ram must have the best possible characteristics because he has so much influence in the flock.

So cute! :-)

I wish I had a place for Banjo to come stay. He's just so sweet!

Great videos! Thanks! I was very entertained. My lambs are due this week and can't wait to watch them zoom around too.

Oh, too too cute. I wish you were closer. I'd come steal the two "pets" :-D.

Yep, if you lived closer I'd arm wrestle her for them.

What's your thought on Banjo's coloring? Is he likely to fade out, or stay dark brown?

Denise, Banjo is definitely a musket and will fade to a light/white body fairly quickly. But his brother Bodhran is jet black like their dam; she has very little iset at eight years of age. I'd certainly consider a loving fiber home for him if no one shows interest in a smooth poll ram candidate!
