How to keep your whites white

Keep 'em covered! This morning I switched Dinah's wardrobe from a size E Rocky Sheep Suit to a size F. The E is in the washing machine now, and will go on poor little stuffed sausage Bramble as soon as it's dry.

The assorted dahlias I planted in the island bed are bloomin' their little hearts out now. I just wish I'd planted two or three times as many! I have got to get my order together for Swan Island Dahlias (right next door to OFFF!) this winter, so I can use my gift certificates and plant the tubers at the proper time next spring.

I'll have to watch this guy and his cohorts, though.

That's it for now at . . .

Good heavens! I need some coats.

Wow, that IS white! I was going to coat some of my girls, but I was told it is too windy here - average daily wind of about 25mph. It gets up to 80, though, often enough. Do you think the coats you use would stay on?

I have to get some bigger sizes, Michelle. Seems like I have plenty of the smaller sizes, but not very many of the Sausage sizes. ;) Lois and I were looking mine over and she was suggesting embroidering the size one them - a great idea. Most other ways I've tried wear off no matter what.
Beautiful fleece on Miss Dinah and the flowers are awesome!

We saw lots of those slugs at my sister-in-laws in Washington, and always on the walkway. I had to keep an eye on my feet and where I was walking -ewwwww.

No Heather, I don't think these coats could blow off. And embroidering the size on them is an awesome idea, Kathy! I'll have to do that, however crudely.

That white is amazing! I am very tempted to get my flock smaller so I could coat them. The idea of coating 30 ewes is a little overwhelming, but I love the results. You need some free ranging ducks to take care of those slugs :)

Shannon, if my husband won't allow free-range chicken poop, I mean chickens, do you really think he's go for free-range ducks? I've heard they are a lot messier than chickens....

Wow - amazing difference with the coat! And I was only thinking of them for sun bleaching and VM. Wow!

that's quite remarkable! I remember when Marshmallow first went outside, she was like a glowing white lamb in the midst of her fellow pasture mates. Now she looks like them. I am seriously going to consider coating for next year. What are the negatives, if any, that you see?

Michelle said...

Claire the only negatives for me are the initial and replacement costs of the coats, which is probably offset by the increased prices I get for my fleeces and the time I save picking them, and aesthetics. At first I missed seeing my sheep in all their fleecy glory, but I quickly got over that.

Wow. the results speak for themselves! I think I might miss the "fleecy glory" of the sheep in the pasture, but the wool looks wonderful!
