Life with dogs, and a hat

I found a few more photos of our trip on my camera. These were from our Sabbath afternoon walk, back when we had two dogs. ;-)

This Sabbath afternoon, Gatsby's girl is coming to see him. I expect he'll be excited, even though he is settling in here more each day. It will be hard to give him up when his quarantine is over, but Rick is firm on not keeping him.

Today the dogs went to the barn with me. The ewes were in the pasture; they seemed to make Gatsby nervous. That's just as well; I don't need him trying to chase or herd them, given how dog-aggressive Vienna is.

That's her on the right above, gazing longingly towards Blake.

Beautiful Miss Blaise; she, too, longs for "love." Sorry girls; there's no room in the inn or my life right now for more sheep!

Now for the tale of two hats. Remember this one, that I made from some lovely yarn spun by Theresa? Well, I made it as a surprise for Theresa, kind of a "hug in a hat" for some turbulent times she's going through.

Last weekend while we were gone, I received an email from Alison, a blogpal in France. She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and is facing treatment that will most likely  cause her hair to fall out. She wrote to ask if I might be willing to make her a soft, slouchy hat. But of course – and I had just the pattern and enough of Theresa's yarn left over to do it!

As if her ears were burning, I got an email from Theresa the very next day. She said, “Your hat is moving on for a bit to a more needy head.” Her mom, also battling cancer, has lost her hair. It is humbling, and a little unnerving, to know that both hats are needed for "chemo cap" service.
I'm nearly to the decreases on Alison's hat; I want her to have it before she needs it, not after. IRL, the colors of the yarn are very similar to those in my first photo!

That's it for now from . . .

Gatsby looks like such a nice boy- I'm sure it will be hard to let him go in four months!

There is nothing like something hand-knit with love. Can you share the pattern? Sort of a shame that Gatsby can't stay - all that back and forth must cause him no little anxiety. Your sheep are so photogenic!
