Accommodations

A baker's dozen here; Perchy-pet not included
Perchy-pet has graduated to spending nights in the henhouse on the loose. This probably means that she could safely live with the flock now. However, in the mornings she wants OUT, in order to make a run to her private woodland nesting spot to lay her egg. The one morning I opened the pop-door before letting her out the man-door first, she ran into the chicken yard and then ran the fence looking for a way out to get to HER SPOT.
No crowded public nesting boxes for Perchy!
Of course I caught her and let her loose to lay her egg, and now remember to let her out first every morning. She makes a good chicken ambassador – and I'd miss my "greeting chicken" if she was penned up!

That's it for now from . . .

Spoil our chickens, do we? Nah, not much! (What else can you do when you have "Madam Ambassador Hen?")

Dottie, my Speckled Sussex, fills the bill as 'greeter'. She is the first out of the coop in the morning and runs to me and sit on my shoe.

That face says trustworthy all over it. Some girls just like a bit of privacy. Trustworthy I tell you!

She has that "alpha" chicken look to her... she will be running the whole coop soon. Some have it... some don't.
