The new year dawned beautifully and the sheep were exuberant. The fact that this old girl -
was still with us this day made me very happy. Last night at choretime I found her flat out on her side and based on her unsteadiness once I got her up, I think she had been down for awhile. In fact, she fell down again while I was watching, so I gave her doses of Banamine and Nutri-Drench and moved her into the corner pen where she wouldn't be jostled by the other sheep. She immediately started eating, and this morning I found her standing and alert. Once out in the sheep lot, she headed to the hay bag while the rest popcorned around. Good for her. :-)Getting on a horse is my one sacred New Year's tradition, so I saddled up Brian's pony for a few turns around the arena after doing chores this morning. Probably didn't make her New Year's, but she could benefit from some tuning up as well as conditioning (ALL our horses could). So until a new dressage partner enters my life, I will spend some time working with the ones we've got, to all our benefit.
Now I'm off to attend to laundry (please don't bother me with any superstitions), a church newsletter, and some more knitting. Happy, joy-full New Year, everyone!

Glad you ewe is feeling better.
I am so looking forward to this years shetland lambs to see what colors / markings I will get this year. Guess I should add spinning lessons and brush up on my poor knitting skills if I am going to have this many shetland sheep. Shearer will be here around Easter time and I will have 15 shetland fleeces and 12 angora fleeces to do something with. If my bucket list keeps getting bigger I will need a bigger bucket soon.

I'm glad your old girl was able to get up and eat, too... I was the Banamine Queen for a while here with our oldsters.

Wasn't it a pleasant day for a ride? I wanted to get out for a walk but still feel lousy.
You started the New Year perfectly.
When you get a cast sheep that's been down for a while; in addition to the Banamine and Nutri-Drench try giving her Gatorade or Powerade. The electrolytes and sugar can help her.
Well done, glad she's up and about.
So glad that you found Inky in time to pull her through. It's terrifying finding them cast!
