From batty back to beauty

My apologies to all bat-lovers out there, but while I think they are bizarre-yet-beneficial little creatures, I don't find them beautiful.

Speaking of bats, yesterday afternoon Rick took Mr. Brown Bat to the Audobon Society in north Portland where he was examined, pronounced fine, fed a couple of grubs, and handed back to Rick to turn loose in his own neighborhood. We put him on a tree trunk by the Ram-ada Inn, and when we checked again he was gone. I just hope he stays in normal batty habitat and doesn't take another stab at becoming a house bat!

One last variety of bearded iris opened in the depleted iris bed - this lavender stunner:
What incredible frills!
The white flag in the island bed is its exact opposite - the picture of pure simplicity:
Another white flower in the island bed is this perennial bachelor's button:I jumped at the chance to add this white variety to the purple ones already on our property last year, and then was heartsick when I thought Brian "weeded" all of it out earlier this spring. But centaurea is tough stuff, and it bounced back, albeit in a smaller clump.

Some more shots of the species geranium I adore:
And finally, remember the albino maple leaves? They are still there, in fact very near where Mr. Brown Bat was released. There are not as many because naughty escaped rammy lambies have dined on them; I think the light color attracted their attention!
That's it for now from . . .

I think the frilly lavendar iris reminds me of a young girl's first party dress and the white one reminds me of a stately dame at a state dinner. They are both quite lovely.

I always enjoy your flower photos! And I hope the bat eats lots of your bugs! We always enjoy have a bat around (on the farm - not in the house!)

I'm so glad your bat was okay and released back where he came from. We love our bats and are happy for their help :-).

The flowers are gorgeous, but I am most in awe of your kindness in taking Mr. Bat for a checkup and then releasing him. Far too many people would freak, scream, and eliminate him.

You and Rick are kind souls....

We have bats find their way into our house every now and then. I'm usually the one to catch them because they don't bother me near as much as they do Guerdon. :) You should try petting them.....they are VERY soft. :)(just make sure they can't reach you with their teeth.....)

Bats may be unlovely creatures, but they are our friends, and helpers, and they are lucky to have friends like you on the side of the angels to make sure they are fit and sound even if you don't want them in your house. (Neither do I but I am a bat fan!)
