Doin' the Fair: Day One, Part Three

We got a couple unexpected treats at the Fair. First, at one of the free venues, we stumbled upon the "Iron Jack" competition. Sponsored by Stihl, it featured two handsome lumberjacks going head to head to see who excelled at all the skills needed to ply their trade. Competitors from across the nation and Canada are competing this week for the title, which will be decided this weekend. (I couldn't help but think how much Pioneer Woman would appreciate the chaps and muscled forearms, even if they aren't on Marlboro Man.) It was quite a spectacle! The log-rolling contest provided the best photo-op, but there were lots of other amazing feats of skill, speed and strength. (I wasn't too thrilled about the axe-throwing contest for the ideas it might have put in Brian's head!)

The second unexpected treat happened after I had to leave for a meeting. Monday night, one of Rick's draft horse clients offered Brian a ride in the evening competition. A very excited boy told me ALL about it when he got home (fortunately, Dad took pictures).

Next up; Day Two . . .

How exciting for Brian!!! Thanks for all of the state fair updates. We are headed there tomorrow to watch some of the World Championship Dock Diving. Looks like there are a lot of other things we should do as well :)

Shannon, I watched a lot of Dock Dog practice runs today; what fun! There was an impressive Weimaraner, and what looked like a Labradoodle with a skinny blond owner; I really like her way of working her dog. You'll have to let me know how those two do!
