The calendar now reflects our weather; Happy Autumn! While I am gleefully donning long sleeves and vests, poor Dinah is losing her woolens. She and her son Barry are going to their new home on Sunday, and since I've had Dinah covered since shearing seven months ago, I reserved the right to her pristine fleece. I could have had her sheared at OFFF but didn't want to take the chance that she would get nicked or cut, so I am scissor-shearing her. She is taking a LOT longer to do than Inky because of her much denser fleece. I thought I had plenty of time to do her yesterday evening, but ran out of light and had to leave her looking like an albino lion. I'll finish her today. Don't worry; I haven't seen her shiver once. She has plenty of insulation beneath her skin - as you can see!
I've had a flurry of interest in Byzantine and a bit in Bardas, so I am taking both of them to OFFF on Sunday as well. Hopefully they will both find new homes, too!
That's it for now from . . .

Wow! You did a fantastic job of getting the fleece of in one piece! Looks like you started in the back. I started in the front when I hand sheared this spring. I will have to try it from the back this fall. How long is the staple lenght?
Yes, I find it easier to start at the back. Staple length is 5-6".
Brrr, yeah. I even turned on the heat this morning.
Gorgeous looking fleece!
Marie, I start from the back, too, when I scissor shear.
Beautiful, beautiful sheep, half naked sheep and fleece! Dinah looks extremely proud of herself for having presented you with that lovely stuff!
That IS gorgeous looking fleece. And a very nice healthy round belly :o).
Good luck finding the boys homes, they're stunning!! :)
This post is kinda of the opposite of what I just put up today. I can see how you'd want to preserve the pristine fleece that you've maintained under the coat.
Looks like a lovely fleece. Makes me feel cold just thinking about shearing now though!!
When I first looked at the top photo of her, I thought you had added a fur collar to her jacket! Took me a few seconds to realize that fur collar is actually part of Dinah!!!

Hi Michelle
If you had a way to get a gorgeous ram to NH...I would snap up Byzantine!!!! Nice boy.
And what a WONDERFUL fleece on Dinah!!! I am drooling!
Thanks, everyone! I just wish there were coats that kept that lovely, soft neck fleece clean; I don't have time to mess with it but oh! how I hate to toss it!
Donna, I could put Byz in a crate and fly him to you, but I doubt he'll still be available after this weekend. He's generating considerable interest; I'm glad he'll be able to be a flock sire and hope Bardas can, too. I was stressing about what I was going to do with them if they didn't sell....
I'm going to have to remember the crate thing next year :0) I never think of flying sheep! LOL
