Branson or bust

My DH insisted we take a trip over Labor Day. I balked, as I really am a homebody, but now that everything is purchased I'm adjusting to the idea. We honeymooned in Branson, MO and always said we wanted to go back. Sooo, after more than 24 years, with a six-year-old in tow, we're doing it. I've got to do some serious selecting and swatching so I have a project to work on; otherwise all that travel time seems like such a waste. Stash, here I come!

This is what I'm leaning towards. I think it's beautiful and intricate, yet not too delicate and lacy (I'm not really a "delicate and lacy" sort of gal). It would also be my first cable project. Am I crazy to attempt something like this on a trip with a very active six-year-old? There are going to be times when I can concentrate and count, right? RIGHT? (And my husband wonders why I think "vacations" are so exhausting.)

By the way, not only are we flying into Kansas City, driving south, taking in the Passion Play, Silver Dollar City, and the Shepherd of the Hills play, we are visiting my husband's uncle, aunt, two cousins and their families (one has one child, one has FIVE - including triplets young than my son). Did I mention I find "vacations" exhausting?

I know, I know, I need to start counting my blessings here at . . .

How fun, we're thinking of going to Branson some day when we don't have all these goaties to take care of!

What? Do you have more to take care of than eight sheep, three horses, four chickens, a cat and a dog? It can be done, but IS part of the stress of leaving home....

Woo...hoo! You'll be within 50 miles of me, Michelle, when you are in Springfield. I'll email you here after while and we can make plans. :-) Wish you could come to the farm, but I know that isn't likely. We can surely meet somewhere though for coffee or something. I have a 'possible sheep pickup' on one of the days you are here, but we'll work out SOMETHING! How fun!

Oh! So close and yet so far! How DO you keep things going at home with all those animals when you're away? Animal sitters?

Oh, just to make it more fun, I think you should take Jackson along. That would spice things up a bit. It really is more trouble and stress to go away than it is to stay home when you have that type of animals.

I had always wanted to go to Branson when we lived in Kansas...but that was way before it expanded into what it is now.
Have fun and wave as you fly over! ;)

I think that it is very hard to find a vacation plan that actually works out to be relaxing. Hope you get some down time and renew/refresh time in there somehow.

I'm with you about the stress of taking trips. You have to think in advance about your clothes, then pack them all and anything else you might need. And top of the list is the trip knitting. I worry about that as much as my clothes. I think you'll be pleased with your project. Cables aren't as demanding as you'd think and you can see where you are. That pattern has predictable and short repeats, plus it's really cute.

Michelle,

We have 72 goats, 20 cats, many Muscovy ducks, peafowl, 2 Great Pyrenees, 2 black lab mixes, I think that does it for us and can't really trust anyone around here to take care of all our critters.

Okay, Pine Pod, now I understand your dilemma! That is a LOT of goats and cats; no wonder you have goats for sale!
