To the beach!

When the valley gets hot, the hot leave the valley!

Yesterday Salem reached a record high, but thanks to an invitation from friends, we came home after church and potluck, changed clothes, grabbed towels, leashes, buckets, and some food, and took off for the coast. Judging from the traffic, lots of other people had the same idea, but the destination was worth it (and I had a Turkish spindle to keep me occupied in the car :-). As we drove, we watched the temperature drop from 101 to 56 degrees; what relief!

Our friends have a favorite secluded spot, tucked along side a shallow, fresh-water stream where the kids can safely play. We romped in the sand, walked to the ocean, visited, shared our food, and ended the Sabbath with songs around the campfire.

Jackson and Dozer were both model citizens, cordial to strange humans and dogs, sticking close, enjoying good romps. I got a few pictures in spite of sporadically returning "magenta haze" and dying batteries.

Thankful for the blessed respite at . . .

Sounds like a wonderful day out! Loved the pictures of the dogs--they look like good buds, hanging close together. I'm afraid we'd have to drive for days to find temps that cool around here! So, I'm just holed up in the a/c AGAIN, with two dogs, eight cats and me---and worried about the rest of the livestock. What a summer.

Dozer is unreal! What awesome photos of him. I love the last picture too.

Glad that you were able to get away from the heat. Ours has finally broke. Thank God!

Praise God for the respite he provides. Thank you for letting us come along...we need the coast and the smell of the salty sea air. It is a tonic for weary inlanders...
You deserved such an ending to the wonderful day...

Boy, that is just the perfect get away. It has been hot and the wave should be breaking around Weds. I sure hope so.
BTW, thank you for the book. It arrived early last week and has migrated to the bedside reading pile!
