An exciting loss!

Okay, so maybe you have to be breeding for polled Shetlands to get excited over this little nubbin that is Braveheart's right scur. Yesterday morning while haltering him I noticed it was loose, and when I checked to see how loose, it came off in my fingers. Up until now, both scurs have felt firmly attached, and they doubled in size in the last month. I was resigning myself to longer scurs than I had hoped for, but this development is encouraging. The left scur is slightly loose now, too. I am told by those who know much more about pollies than I that Braveheart will mostly likely repeat this over and over (grow small scurs and then knock them off). I'd quite happy with that!

Later I went back armed with my camera to document the appearance of his horn area --even though THIS view is much cuter!
While I had him haltered, I also took close-ups of his fleece. The following shots were taken of, in order: mid-shoulder, mid-side, flank, and backbone.(I'd say the full head shot and the last fleece photo are most true-to-color.) Gotta love that uniformity!
