The sounds of pain and rain

Emotional pain, that is. I took Bevin from the ewe group and put her in with her brothers this morning; she's going to her new home at Wrensong Farm next Sunday so she needed to be weaned. The poor, pathetic baby! "BAAAaaaAAAaaa!" she cries. Valentine doesn't answer her often, which is good; when Valentine does say something, Bevin really wails. It doesn't help that the "nutlessteers" aren't being very nice to her. I've never seen them butt one another, but they all pushed her out of the hay and rammed her if she got too close (don't worry; I put out a second flake).
I know, the photo of Bevin is dark - but hurray, it's because of a weather change!Yes, that is a WET deck; we're getting showers on and off and it could continue for days. We sorely need it, and the cooler temps are a welcome relief. I'm one of those who would much rather add a layer than swelter in the heat!

That's it for now at . . .

Oh, Bevin is one of my birthday twins, isn't she? I feel sort of proprietary over them - since they were born on my birthday ;-) I hope she'll be happy in her new home. I saw a LOT of Shetland sheep this weekend at the Michigan Fiber Festival - thought of you and your little flock :-)

Well, as her twin, you should be feeling very sad today, sharing in her pain across the miles. :-)

Several fellow Shetland breeders/bloggers were at MFF, so I imagine the breed was well represented!

I'm with you on the cooler weather. I LOVE it when it's cool enough to actually bundle up! I even keep a shawl at work and love it when the AC is so cold that I have to wear it...

Poor Bevin! But I am glad to hear that your weather changed - as I sit here watching it sprinkling outside. :)

Poor Bevin! :( Let her know she'll be having more girly company as of this weekend. Yippee for the rain! it's like I can hear everything giving a collective sigh. I like nice weather, but I also like it to rain so I don't have to water plants and to keep the dust down. :)
