Today's treasure is in my car:
One of our church members gave us this bounty of sweetmeat winter squash from her garden. I have my work cut out for me, but it's a good time to heat up the oven. I might even make a 'pumpkin' pie tomorrow; MmmMmm!
That's it from cold, snowy . . .

Wow, those squash are lovely! I love putting pureed squash into winter soups - it is a great addition and so full of good nutrition! Thank you for the question about the squirrel species - I had forgotten to mention anything about that in my post. I've added a new paragraph at the end about it. The ones we have here are the American Red Squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus), very similar to a species on the west coast - Douglas Squirrel (Tamiasciurus douglasii), both of which are commonly called pine squirrels, and in some places they call them chickarees. The big grey squirrels are a different genus entirely (Sciurus). We do get the big ones here, especially in urban areas, but the reds are much more common.
We are still waiting our first actual snow of the season in the mid Atlantic area.
Wait a minute, you got "our" snow! We've been warned of a big snow -- 8-12" -- since last weekend, but have gotten nothing but perhaps an inch. Not fair since we here in northern Minnesota are always happy to get more of the white stuff. Skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing -- we need it! Happy Tuesday to you, Michelle, and your not-so-excited-about-the-snow dogs!
