I've never had lambs in early February even when I've tried for them, so I'm hoping this won't be the first time.

That is true, but if he got his sisters or dam, they would be VERY inbred.

Son to Dam is ok, brother/sister is not so ok, half-sib matings are generally ok. If it works, it's line breeding; if not it's inbreeding.

When our ram jumped the fence in mid winter, we ended up with four new lambs. He missed his mum, but bred a half sibling. She turned out a sweet and beautiful and verra friendly little ewe.

I'll keep that in mind, Laura. (He's five months old.) Interesting that son to dam is "OK"!

Sherry, I just hope he didn't get old Annabelle.

Sewbeezy, I've never been successful in getting my Shetlands bred early enough for February lambs, so I'm thinking we're safe. Time will tell!
