Dynamic

I love a dynamic sky. To me, a clear blue sky isn't much better than a slate-gray sky; bor-ing. Give me blue sky and clouds – big and towering or wispy and veil-like; throw in a rainbow and you have a skyscape. Yesterday afternoon while Brian was at a youth group activity, Rick and I took a walk under a wonderfully dynamic sky. I took lots of photos, but none of them truly captured what was delighting my eyes. (And yes, unfortunately, my camera has some "artifacts" inside it that are showing up in my photos.)

Some of my "ground clouds:"

Taking a cue from the Autumnal Equinox, our first "winter storm" moved in today. It is not amounting to that much wind or rain at this point, but it certainly looks and feels like fall. I'm drinking peppermint tea, canning applesauce and wearing Polarfleece. What are you doing on the first day of fall?

That's it for now from . . .

I'm wearing a turtleneck, Rube the outdoor boiler is running and it's homemade pizza for dinner. Lovely pictures Michelle. Our sky has been that angry grey and it has been raining here. :) We so need it.

We spent most of the day cutting, splitting and stacking wood . . . a real fall day activity! We had a small fire in the wood stove first thing this morning and now at 7 p.m. we've made another one to take the chill off the house.

Beautiful pics . . . even with the "artifacts" inside your camera!

Well after the wind storm filled with dust last night (no rain here, but friend up the hill did get some) it was time to at least find a long sleeve t-shirt to wear today. It was only 50 degrees outside at 8 this morning, where it had been in the 80's at that hour. What a difference a day makes (well a season at least) so much nicer. Got the sheep shed cleaned out with the tractor this week, sheep are so funny, they walk to the rail on the bottom and won't cross over it, it's not covered like it was, they look inside and think it is strange in there.

I wound yarn, washed fleece and set it up to dry in front of the woodstove with a fan (the woodstove isn't lit) and then pulled up my tomatoes and I'm making Green Tomato Chutney. It probably won't be done tonight, but I'll can it in the morning, before I start dyeing. Had some rain here, and more wind - great welcome to autumn!

I woke up cold this morning. Put our first blanket on the bed. YES!!!
I will pick our green tomatoes and find some recipes for them. (Green tomato Chutney sounds delicious, Laura)
I love your "ground clouds" and the beautiful sky photos.
You do have something on your lens. Try Zeiss lens cleaning wipes. You can get them at WalMart or Amazon. Hope that's all it is.
Summer has officially retreated. Autumn is here.
Life is good.

So glad you're finally getting rain, Theresa!

No fires here yet, Mama Pea; I'm just enjoying the coolness!

Audrey, I'm glad it's cooler for you, but I sure wish I could make it rain for you. :-/

Laura and farmlady, my all-time favorite green tomato recipe is here:
http://www.farmgirlfare.com/2009/09/got-green-tomatoes-try-my-super-simple.html I still have some from last year, though, so probably won't make more.

Farmlady, the dust/debris/whatever is INSIDE my camera, not on the outside of the lens. It would cost more than the camera did to send it in to be taken apart and cleaned, unfortunately. I, too, am happy autumn is here!

I LOVE your ground clouds... :) Those shots of the skies are so beautiful, Michelle. I, too, find cloudless blue skies bland. Give me drama any day. And I do get drama most days...

I love that first shot - gorgeous!! We had some blustery winds and lots of rain yesterday. Finally got to see my rain chain in action! I made applesauce, lit a fire in the wood stove and wore sweatpants all day long. Very appropriate weather and activities for fall.
