Some blogs feature photos of beautiful food. Me, I show flops -- literally! Making bread has been on my to-do list this week, so when another cool, cloudy day presented itself, I set out to replenish our freezer and pantry. But with all the other things I was trying to juggle at the same time, I didn't keep track of the rising loaves like I should have. When I finally thought to look in the warming oven, the dough was spilling over the sides of the pans!
Although the texture might suffer a bit I know it will still taste good; my consternation comes from the fact that these overrisen loaves won't fit in my bread bags -- not to mention my toaster slots! And that, dear ones, is a problem. I could try grilling them like the giant Portobello mushroom caps they resemble, but I don't think they would turn out satisfactorily. (On the other hand, butter and garlic makes anything delicious, right?)
On to baking off a batch of cookies at . . .

If I had bread that yummy and beautiful, I'd run right out and buy a toaster oven. (No slots!)
Your family is very lucky!
Hey, Melanie is right...at least your family gets homemade bread! I used to do that but with just the two of us, our bread eating got to be too sporadic for me to fuss with baking...plus I won't light the oven in this hot weather. But wait until fall sets in! ;)
I've had mushroom bread and I also prefer the 8" glass pans. When I needed three loaves a week, I found the best solution was to make up my bread dough after dinner using sourdough, do one punch down, then put the dough in pans in the fridge. It would rise overnight and I could put it in a cold oven in the morning, turn it on oven and bake them while getting ready. I'd leave with for work with three golden loaves cooling on the rack.
Could you have punched them down for one more rise - or were they on their way to being baked when you found the "issue"? - Looks like really good bread tho - Nice to have it cool down so you could do a little baking, huh? :-) T.
They still look tasty!
