Veterans Day 2022

I copied these images from a friend's blog:

I especially like the second one because it is the first time I've seen something acknowledging the animals used and oft-times sacrificed as cogs in the machinery of mankind's wars. I can't wait for the day sung about in that old spiritual, when we will "study war no more."

In much happier news, I got an early birthday surprise in the wee hours of this morning. After saying he'd be late and to not wait up for him, my husband arrived home with my MOM in tow! He'd invited her, bought her a ticket, and picked her up at the airport without dropping a clue. She and I have spent one lovely day visiting and cooking my birthday dinner, and I have five more days to look forward to. She lucked into a stretch of beautiful fall weather here, although we got some rain this afternoon that I didn't think was in the forecast. I took the first photo below this morning before the change; the rest were taken in town yesterday as I walked to the post office for work.

Feeling very blessed at . . .

What a wonderful gift. I've been thinking a lot about my mom recently . . . . You are so lucky to still have yours, and this gift of a week of time together is really wonderful. Your fall colors are still beautiful - ours are gone now, and the temps were in the 30s this morning. Snow is on the way early next week (so they say).

Thanks, Leigh, Mama Pea, Dee, and A! Having Mom here is a treat, and the weather is behaving perfectly for her. And yes, Rick outdid himself this year!

Wow- what an amazing surprise!!! Truly wonderful. I hope you enjoyed the visit thoroughly. And I like the Veteran's Day images as well- though provoking, both of them.

Oh, Michelle! What a wonderful birthday surprise! I smiled all the way through, and I'm still smiling! I'm so happy for you! I know your birthday was fantastic. What a great husband you have!

Your pictures are really nice. You have a great bunch of beautiful trees. Are those all on your property?

Happy Birthday a little late!

Sue, Donna, Jeanne, and Elaine; Rick really outdid himself this year. I have one more lovely day of my mom in gorgeous weather.

I'm glad you liked the Veterans Day images, too, Donna.

Jeanne, all the but first tree photo were taken in McMinnville, not at our place.

Happy belated birthday, Michelle! Veterans Day dawned very cold and rainy here, and I did not go to the parade this year... I just could not face it. The pictures were wonderful.... Fort Leavenworth and the City of Leavenworth have a wonderful parade every year. I had stopped at the national cemetary the day before to see Keith, and to thank all of those who lay with him.

So glad you got to spend time with your mother! What a gift!

I totally agree about picture #2. Animals often are dragged into danger in war - and even in peace. I am a HUGE animal lover and it is one thing to involve humans in violent endeavors ... who may even join willingly, but animals don’t get to choose.
