Another one bites the dust

After two and a half years and three shots, I tested positive for COVID this morning. Ugh.

On Saturday my throat had a niggling little tickle; I thought it was just allergies. But on Sunday I had a cough and could feel it in my chest and realized Rick had shared his 'cold' with me. The cough turned productive, the nose got involved, and then my get-up-and-go got up and left. I did manage to rouse myself enough to make a batch of Spiced Rye Ginger Cookies Tuesday evening – but they didn't have much flavor. Oh well; that often happens during the congested phase of a cold. Couldn't taste a thing all day yesterday. This morning I woke up feeling like hammered grunt and still couldn't taste or smell a thing, so I took the above test. Those lines popped up fast; no waiting for results. Now waiting to see how long the effects of COVID last....

Fortunately, spinning doesn't take a lot of physical or mental energy, so I was able to finish my main TdF goal today. Using my two new Gooney Jenkins Turkish spindles, I've gotten one braid of BamHuey spun and plied (ply-on-the-fly/POF):

I have two more TdF goals for the month, so I started on one of them this afternoon; spinning cotton POF on my Carob Wren. This particular spinning project is project-driven; I'm going to knit some cotton washcloths.

Boomer, thankfully, is the picture of health. It's hard to capture that picture, as he is either coming up to get his incredibly soft fleece scritched, or hopping and bopping away. He is musket like his dam, unfortunate only because I had a buyer for a black-based polled ram lamb. But with his fine fleece, excellent conformation, and what looks to be a smooth-polled noggin, he looks like promising flock sire material for someone:

Bridget is wearing a coat again to keep that pretty fleece clean

Inside, my miniature orchid still shines, and the miniature African violet keeps unfurling more blooms:
Another of the orchids is getting ready to join them (they are all on the top of an antique pie safe):

Things are still pretty bleak outside with all the weeding that didn't get done, but the two daylily varieties below have joined the Stella D'Oros in adding bits of color here and there:

This time of year I'm awake for more sunsets than sunrises; here is some of the evening color I've captured in July:

That's it from the 'sick bed' at . . .

Oh no! You just can’t catch a break.

My husband and I miraculously still are well. He has a sinus infection now - which we did test for covid but came up negative. I had a scratchy throat a few weeks ago and it also came up negative. We still wear masks indoors wherever we go. But I have no doubt that our turn is coming with this virus. I think the last statistic I heard was that over 60% of the US population has been infected since the beginning. And since not all infections have been counted that number is higher I am sure. I have no doubts whatever that we will get this virus at some point. We have had 2 boosters - so 4 shots total since the beginning of the pandemic - since we are over 65 years of age - but regardless - this virus will keep on changing and changing and everyone will eventually get to experience it like the common cold (except it isn’t common because a cold cannot kill you.). Rest as much as you can.

By the way, that baby lamb is sure a beauty!!

I'm so sorry you got the dreaded Covid. Thus far (knock wood) we've missed it. Hope you're well and over it soon with no linger side effects.

Well crud. I hope you have a very mild case and will recover quickly. I just took a rapid test this morning myself, but thankfully it was negative. Rest all you can. This year has been so wonky for you in so many ways, I know you didn't need this on top of everything else.

Elaine, I am infrequently with other people, but admit to having gotten lax about wearing my mask in stores. Not doing so would have prevented this, since I got it from my husband (he finally tested last night and was positive, too). Will be diligent about masking in stores again, though.

Deb, I definitely feel better today than I did yesterday and the day before, so progress!

Sue, I hope you keep avoiding it. Although I am improving some I still can't taste, and that is a bigger disappointment than I would have guessed.

Given this year, A, I wasn't surprised at all. I don't ask "What else can go wrong?" because the devil just says "Here, hold my beer" (or arsenic!).

Oh, Michelle! I'm so sorry to hear this! You surely didn't need it. I think I told you I had a mild case in June. I've had four shots. I didn't even lose my taste or smell. It doesn't seem fair does it? Was Rick very sick? I'm so glad to know that you are improving.

Boomer is adorable! When you feel better maybe you could take a video of him? Such a cute name, too.

Your day lilies are beautiful! I especially like the magenta one.

Your first TdF project is so pretty!! I'm looking forward to seeing your cotton washcloths.

Take good care of yourself.

I'm so sorry you got Covid and hope you're better by now. I bet it's harder for your hubby to avoid stuff since he's out and about all the time. Your photos, as always, are wonderful!

sorry to hear about the COVID. hope it goes easy on you. Little Boomer is so handsome :) And your spinning is just gorgeous. I signed on to do TdF this year, but got distracted by my recent wheel rescue.

Sorry to hear about the illness but that little one looks close to perfect! You have got to be the absolutely BEST drop spindle spinner I've ever seen!
