Almost Currier & Ives

Excuse my disparaging the piddly amount of coverage we woke to Christmas morning. The morning of the 26th we awoke to INCHES and more fell, for a total of around 8". It was lovely, fluffy stuff, light enough to fill in under trees and the chicken run's roof and through the barn door. I turned the horses out to play in it and even rode in it, but chose not to try driving in it until Tuesday, when enough tracks had been made by Rick's big, sometimes chained-up, vet truck to allow my car some traction.

Don't worry; I kept the resident hummers fed.

Looking down our icy lane toward home on Monday

The paved road toward town looked a little better

You'd think Poppy, with no fat or fur to speak of, would be ill-suited to snow and cold, but she dashed out into it at every opportunity, hoping to catch the birds and raccoons drawn by the black oil sunflower seeds or search the barn for mice.

Rick and I have both engaged in some handiwork at the end of the year. Rick turned a unique creation out of cherry for a client who gave him the wood,

and I put the finishing touches on my egg ornaments (as well as spinning, of course; there's almost always spinning!):
Saving a glitter fail with a silvery snowflake.

More snowflakes! My neighbor gave them to me.

More eggs now, and most of those eggs are adorned.

It's warmed up a little and rain has fallen most of the day, so our winter wonderland is returning to green, and mud. No special plans here for the weekend, other than an "agape feast" tomorrow night at church, our usual services on Sabbath – and my New Year's tradition of spending some time on horseback to start my year off right in at least one small but significant-to-me way. It's about the only thing I can control!

That's it for 2021 from . . .

Goodness, all my recent posts have been complete photo-dumps! I apologize if that makes accessing my posts more difficult for anyone!

All comes through here just fine. Your snowfall made your scenery look a lot like ours. We're finally getting a winter that seems like winter with a couple of snows coating all the trees and bringing that on the ground up to a couple of feet. I need to post some pics of our "almost Currier & Ives!" Happy New Year to you and yours, Michelle.

Glad you got enough snow to enjoy but also that its not hanging around for the long term. It does that at our house too and that's the way I like it. Remember that saying, "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference." I have to keep it in mind frequently. It makes life easier. Happy New Year and I hope 2022 is a much better year for all of us.

Yes, you need to post pictures, too, Mama Pea! Happy New Year to you as well

Sue, I do keep that good saying in mind, but the wisdom seems awfully slow in coming.

Michelle, the older I get, the less I appreciate the snow. I am so grateful we don't have it here... I have looked back on some of my posts from years past, and I honestly do not think I could cope now. We are getting sleet, however, and I watched where I put my feet when doing chores this morning. Enjoy your snow! :-) Happy New Year!

You HAVE to use the photo of the horses running together (Stella's tail is up) for your Christmas card next year! So perfect :-) Major snow expected here today - first major one. It's just starting to flurry now.

Michelle, I loved looking at all the pictures you posted! The horses with their "snow blankets" looked really cute. I'm glad they got to enjoy the snow.

Did I tell you that we got a foot and a half of snow, starting Christmas Day? We still have some of that, and the Weather Channel is predicting more for tomorrow. YIKES! We've lived in enough areas which get a generous amount of snow and cold weather, since Ron and I got married. This snowstorm business we've had is not something I appreciate!

Your egg ornaments are so lovely!! Thanks for showing them! They look so pretty on your tree. I guess you should do some more and sell them!

Marlys and I think the bowl Rick made is beautiful! We both love things made of beautiful wood.

Rico is the opposite of Poppy, when it comes to going out in the snow! He doesn't like it at all! Marlys had to shovel a path for him to his favorite spot.

Wishing you a happy and blessed 2022!

I love seeing all your photos. The ones of the horses silhouetted in the snow are gorgeous. You got lots more snow than we did, though we've been housebound for a week now, except for one brief afternoon foray when the snow was briefly off our driveway.
