Tasty Tuesday

'Tis the season for feasting on fresh food, and preserving some of the bounty for the rest of the year.

Even though we've been up to our armpits in peaches since last week, each one we eat brings forth sounds that would be indecent in any other context. They are SO good! I've put up 14 quarts for Brian, who likes them canned, and 25-30 pints have been stashed in every nook and cranny of both freezers for Rick and I, who prefer them frozen. I've also made a BIG peach cobbler for church potluck, and a fresh peach pie which we shared with friends. I've kept a bowl full of sliced peaches in the frig for breakfast, brought home some whipping cream today so I could try a Moosewood cookbook recipe for peach ice cream that sounds heavenly, and should make at least one more pie. The rest will be made into this for ourselves and for gifts, although I'm toying with making it more exotic by adding some spices.

But it hasn't been all peaches all the time. I've made two batches of tabouli (with quinoa), as well as black bean zucchini burgers, pumpkin zucchini bread and muffins (used a pint of frozen sweetmeat squash puree to make room for one more pint of peaches), and zucchini fritters. I'm craving this, but don't have enough tomatoes at the moment – hopefully that problem will resolve soon.

Finally, I am tickled to announce that today I got the first pullet-bullet from one of the beautiful blue Wyandottes!

This is, in many ways, my favorite time of year just for the bounty of fresh vege and fruits! I would love your black bean and zucchini burger recipe!

Oh, oh, oh! Severe fresh peach envy here!!

Yes, if only we could still have all the fresh fruit and other produce from our gardens in January or February! Canned and frozen is much appreciated that time of year, but nuthin' beats all of it fresh.

Love the color of your hens....have toyed with the idea of having a blue poultry on the farm...perhaps one day.

All that talk of peaches has made me very hungry. It all sounds delicious! X

Wow, now I'm really hungry! The peaches sound fabulous. We can't grow them here - the season is too short. We do get some from Ontario though.
