Catching up: The Coast

When last I posted, I was eagerly anticipating a day at the coast – not only for the refreshing change in temperature, but also because it is one of my very favorite places. Being there with favorite people made it even better!

We drove to Beverly Beach State Park Sabbath morning where we enjoyed worshipping and eating with a group from church and a walk on the beach. In the afternoon we headed for home, stopping along the way in Depoe Bay ("the world's smallest harbor") and at a couple wayside areas hoping to see whales. At the second whale stop, we were rewarded with a whole lotta spouting going on, along with glimpses of backs and flukes. The whales were too far away for good photos, but here are some snapshots to go with the rest of my memories of that wonderful day. As you can see, the weather was beautiful!

My brother and his wife used to live in Depoe Bay and we'd get over there a lot more often than we do now. I miss it. We all went on a whale-watching boat and a whale breached right in front of us! Sure wish I'd had my camera with me then!

I loved seeing your photos...they brought back great memories.

Headed your way next week with three grand girls. We were at Newport last year and the girls fell in love with Oregon. This time Lincoln City and then to Roseburg / Winston for the Safari Park. Any other suggestions?

Thanks, Theresa; it sure felt good over there!

The tide was coming in fast, Lorie; it was going to have to swim soon.

You need to come see it for yourself, Sara!

Wish I could send some of that refreshment your way, Mama Pea.

I thought of you a lot while we were there, Karla.

I went whale-watching in a boat ONCE, Mokihana; never again! I get motion-sick too easily....

TC, if you have time (and the wildfire doesn't interfere, I think Crater Lake is a must-see/do. Hike from the rim down to the lake and take a boat ride; get off and hike around Wizard Island. It's a very special place. So is Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood, and the Columbia River Gorge!
