Although this will be news to my husband, this is Henry (as in Ford). Rick's grandfather purchased this 9N tractor nearly new, and it has been handed down through Rick's dad to him. Don't tell me men aren't sentimental; Rick wouldn't consider selling this thing in spite of its limited usefulness and I'm sure Brian will inherit it someday.
This is Hermie, a little Kubota my folks hauled all the way from Texas for us (yes, with their car). With a diesel engine, four-wheel drive, PTO and a front-end loader, it's like we've just gained a whole crew of hired hands! And the trailer it's sitting on? They are leaving that, too – just in time for hauling hay. Oh, how blessed we are!
Brian got first driving rights, then I got to try it. I am thinking our ability to continue living this rural lifestyle has probably been extended a good 20 years.
Speaking of rural living, Muffy is in the "hen hospital." I have no idea what is wrong with her, but am giving her lots of TLC in hopes of pulling her through it. This morning I set an x-pen up outside the chicken yard (she's too weak to consider flying or hopping out) so she can be near the other hens without getting picked on.
That's it for today from . . .

You will love your Kubota. What generous parents you have; enjoy your week!
What a wonderful gift. Enjoy!
Would love to have a tractor some day, but only for bragging rights, really don't know that I have enough stuff to do with one to justify buying it :)
Its so hard to tell what's wrong with chickens when they get sick! And often the only indicator that they are sick is the way the other chickens treat them. I hope she gets better soon!
you will love the tractor, now I see why they drove from Texas, it would not have fit in the overhead on the airlines. I have an old Kubota, with a bucket and box scraper, comes in very handy.
Oh for a loader... That was a SCORE!!!
You will love your new little tractor. My Bob is older but close in size and capabilities. The FEL is a must have. Enjoy, the visit, the tractor and here's hoping the bird recovers!
Wow! You have some wonderful parents! And to tow it all the way from Texas! No wonder Brian wants to spend time with them - I love the picture of your dad and his grandson and their tractor. I hope poor Muffy feels better. There is nothing more frustrating than a hen that is under the weather.
I'm so envious! I have always wanted a tractor, because I'm a tractor kinda gal... The front-end loader will be very, very handy, and the pto is just awesome (post holes, brush hogging, etc.) As Tim the toolman Taylor says, "AR AR AR!"
Sorry about Muffy, I have some gastro-something going on with some of mine - need to get the right antibiotic, as the current one isn't working...
What a sweet blessing and a sweet little Kubota! Have fun!
You are so right...good equipment means you'll be able to stay on the farm much longer. The trouble with having good equipment, I'm not strong enough to take off the hay spear and put on the bush hog. Mercy, it's always something.
congrats on the tractor! they are such a tremendous help. what a wonderful thing for your folks to do-
So jealous of that little Kubota - lucky you! I was just looking at a used one yesterday with my friend.
