What a beautiful chicken! Is that a Speckled Sussex? I have a couple of chicks in my new layer order. I hope they turn out as lovely as yours. And that dragonfly pin is so perfect with your Maia. Will we get to see you modeling it?

Great pin! I use to love seeing the dragonflies where I lived in Reno. You'd think being in the desert would mean no dragonflies, but there was a wetland marsh a little over 1/4 mile away, and I saw them all the time. Oddly enough, I don't see them at my place here in Oregeon... Weird.

Pretty chicken and lovely spindle!

Yes, Susan, that is one of our four Speckled Sussex. They are good layers so far, as well as being beautiful. And that IS me modeling Maia with a white long-sleeved tee! (What? You expect to see my FACE?)

Laura, a neighbor gave me that pin awhile, and yesterday I realized it was perfect for Maia. I wore it to Woodland Woolworks, where I bought the Jenkins Delight turkish spindle and a few other goodies. Did you look for buttons? She had a nice basketful of Tagua nut buttons, a jar of FIMO buttons, plus a nice selection of metal and horn ones. I'm going back; let me know if you want anything.

I love my speckled sussex hens, but the roos can be quite nasty. I had one named, Rufus (which ryhmes with dufus) and he attacked my tiny, sweet mother in law when she was collecting eggs. She calmly put down her basket, took one of her crutches and clocked him. My mother in law had polio as a child, so crutches are her constant companion/weapon. She felt so bad, but the rooster was fine. I would have paid good money to witness that. (Grin)
