I guess it fits the date, the weather and the current economy. Yesterday I learned that Woodland Woolworks is closing its doors soon. Many people know WW through its catalogs; I know it because it is my LYS/LSS (local yarn store/local spinning store). It was there I purchased my first wheel and so many other fiber-related goodies. Diane and the ladies who work for her are such a friendly and helpful bunch; I always looked forward to seeing them at Black Sheep Gathering and Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival as well as in the store when I could make it out to first Carlton and more recently Yamhill. My heart breaks for all of them; the closing of WW will be the end of an era and the end of a dream. I will be stopping by before the end of the month for good-bye hugs all around.
Yes, there is beauty even when things are gloomy. It's gotten foggier since I took this photo at morning chore time. Drip, drip, drip.
That's it for now from . . .

I am so sorry to hear about Woodland Woodworks. It is sad to see local shops closing their doors.
That is horrible news- how sad for all of us.
Oh no! I hadn't heard that. That is bad news.
I am so disappointed to hear this. All of my original fiber equipment came from them through their catalogue. If Woodland didn't have it...then no one did! Loved their catalogue. And their prices were always competitive. Why are they closing?
Stephen, Diane told me what you might expect; too little income and too many expenses. I don't think she's been paying herself for awhile now, trying to keep things going. I'm just so sad for her, as well as the rest of us.
This news is awful. I've ordered from them too. I used to get brown BFL roving from them. I remember taking some to spinning group years ago, and someone asking what BFL meant. Now she raises them! She must have been impressed.
I'm saddened by the news, though I have to admit that I haven't been much of a customer since Charlie sold the business. I loved their 3 pounds of Black Sheep white roving for $18. That was the killer deal of my spinning career!
Oh that is such a pity. I wish the owner all the best though in her future endeavors
That sucks! I lurve WW.
I was shocked to hear about WW!!! Diane just called me about a dye sample card I had ordered long ago - one came in but went from a reasonable fee to $25 (for a sample card???). I had to tell her not to bother sending it as I can't see paying that much for dye color samples right now.
Bummer.
