No-photo finish

Last night I pushed through the weariness and pain to successfully complete the first leg of my Olympic event; I finished and cast off the back of my vest. It took four and a half skeins of yarn, fully half of the nine skeins it calls for (and all I have). Before going to bed I pored over the instructions for the vest fronts to see if my vague ideas for incorporating the two lighter grey skeins would work. Not only could I not figure out how to do that, I wasn't at all sure I understood all the instructions, period! So I'm as nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof, needing to cast on the complicated left front today if I have any hope of medaling but not at all sure I won't end up with one front shoulder in a different color of yarn - if I can figure out the instructions at all.

And no, I haven't heard a word about my camera. :-(

Last night's sunset was breathtaking. You'll have to take my word for it.

That's it for now at . . .

We are all cheering for you here at High Ridge. Should we wave a flag or something? Our Olympic event was down to the stop sign and back with only two "carrying" sessions for the little guy.

Okay, this might hurt a bit, but here's my thought. So, you are knitting one front side and then the other? Measure your yarn use carefully on that first side. IF you are not going to have enough to complete the second front, rip out the back and alternate the different colors running up through the back. I'd probably scrap the pattern back there since between color and pattern, color always wins and the pattern probably wouldn't show too well. Then, you have a matching front with lovely pattern that you totally can pull off and a slightly blended back that will be beautiful too.

I envy how talented you are with your knitting. Perhaps I will get the hang of it one day. Probably when I am blind and my hands are crippled with arthritis. Ha!

If you have used half the yarn on the back, with a textured stitch, you should have "just" enough to do the fronts with cables and a v-neck. You can sew it together with the different color.

Alternatively, you could make the V-neck deeper, so there's more decreasing, giving you more yarn to finish.

You can do it - you can, you can!!

Did we even TRY and look on Ravelry for more of your yarn? Just wondering...it might be worth the time..

Oh yes, Melanie, I looked on Ravelry. None, not even of a different color. This stuff must be OLD!

Thanks, everyone, for your encouragement. I am going to follow Sara's advice, maybe along with Laura's for a deeper v-neck. I should be able to tell when one front is finished by weighing it and the remaining yarn....

You have company in your Olympic knitting frustrations. I hope you have a better solution than mine - frog it. Ugh.
