Interlude

For the last 75 minutes, I've been deliciously alone in the house. Rick left, taking his mom to drop her off at her apartment for an appointment, and taking Brian on a call with him so that afterwards they can come home to split and stack more firewood.

Rick's mom has been here since Thursday to find a house to purchase. As soon as her Arizona house closes, Rick will fly down to drive her here. He was going to be helping her load her stuff and drive a U-Haul truck towing her car, but thankfully she's decided to hire professional movers.

This morning we had this:

I didn't plan to serve homemade German Chocolate Cake for breakfast, but hey, that's when it worked out. I made this to celebrate several things – my mom's September birthday, my MIL's selling and buying of homes, and Rick's October birthday. I made it at a confluence of visits (did I mention I'm driving my MIL to the airport and picking up my folks from the airport this afternoon?) because "many mouths make light work" – in other words, Rick can enjoy a little of his favorite "heart attack on a plate" rather than a lot of it.

I've savored my solitude but my break is up; I must take a quick shower before playing chauffeur.

Toodle-loo, from . . .

Looks so delicious cake. Will you share your recipe?

Wish I could share it with all of you! Endah, the recipe is the "Original Baker's German Sweet Chocolate Cake" recipe that comes on the package of the special chocolate; you can find the recipe here:
http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/original-bakers-germans-sweet-chocolate-cake-51120.aspx I don't know if you have access to that German Sweet Chocolate, though. Do note that I frost the entire cake, not just the horizontal surfaces; the icing recipe makes enough to do that.

Now, THAT is the breakfast of champions! Wow! I would love to lock myself in a closet with that cake... :) Sounds like things are looking up - and how wonderful your folks are coming for a visit! Things are never dull at Boulderneigh...

That cake is wonderful... I'm hoping all the buying/selling/cutting/stacking goes safely!
