FULL

Last week was very full, culminating in a very full first day of this week (Sunday) spent at the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival (OFFF). I never go to a fiber festival for a full day; I usually zip in to do my proxy shopping and maybe a little bit for myself and zip home again to all the things that need doing. But insomuch as possible, I had cleared my schedule for our guest Adi's visit, including yesterday, and made the most of it. Below are some highlights.

Wednesday we spent several hours with the Jenkins, who graciously shared their time in the midst of getting ready to be the most in-demand vendor at OFFF. Ed showed off his newest spindle style and Adi and I got to try spinning on them, then Wanda took us to her LYS, where I found the perfect travel tin for my smaller spindles, then on to Silver Falls State Park, intending to hike but only taking a couple short walks (seeing only three of its ten waterfalls) because of the rain and time limits. Still, Adi got to see iconic Pacific Northwest scenery, one of her trip's goals. On our way home through Salem we stopped at Minto-Brown Island Park to take in the sunset.
how fitting, given the many times I've been asked if my spindle is a cat toy

Thursday Adi and I drove to the coast and hiked a loop that took us through more iconic PNW forest (lots of fungi!) and across a bluff overlooking Lincoln City and the Pacific Ocean. Then we drove down to the ocean so Adi could dip her toes in the sea, happening upon a most unexpected Brown Pelican convention! That evening she went to agility class with Poppy and me, and afterwards to Costco and met my cousin.

Sabbath afternoon I invited her on my usual walk up the hill, which Rick tires of but I think is ever-changing and beautiful; it was gratifying that Adi also found it beautiful.

Sunday, as I said, was spent at OFFF. We had been forewarned to get there early as selling had been brisk the day before, and I had ten people to proxy-shop for. One style sold out (one of the styles I wanted to procure for myself), but I think I managed to secure everything else on people's wish lists. I traded fiber snacks with other 'Jenkins Junkies,' socialized and spun in the spinning circle, enjoyed a most excellent falafel sandwich, and competed with lots of other spindle spinners (all but one using Jenkins Turkish spinners) in a variety of fun spinning challenges, even winning one and getting to take home a wheel of beautiful BamHuey fiber for my efforts. Adi left for the airport at the end of OFFF; it was hard to say good-bye as she felt like a 'sister of my heart.'

Of course, like vacation, taking all that time last week meant a lot of catching up this week. And then there were the election results. Looking at the beautiful rainbow of candidates elected across the country makes my heart so full; they look like AMERICA and all its wonderful diversity, from its original inhabitants to people from every wave of immigration (as well as those who were brought here against their will). Blogpal A posted this music video, which makes me tear up with hope and joy, knowing that God will eventually bring universal peace.

That's it for now from . . .
