Full meal deal Fair report

As promised!

Last Wednesday I drove Brian to the State Fair for his 2-9 shift – and stayed. I wanted to go to the Zach Williams concert that evening, so I took the opportunity to wander around to see what else I could see – minus the carnival and most of the salespeople. Although smaller in size and scope this year due to the uncertainty of having the Fair at all again thanks to the pandemic, I still found lots to enjoy. I even sat down with a couple of the volunteer spinning demonstrators in the Creative Living building, pulled out my spindle, and had a lovely time visiting!

I know some of you no longer have traditional state fairs or can't attend yours, so I took photos of a few of my favorite State Fair things to share, bracketed by my son hard at work on the skid steer and my husband hard at work monitoring a sick Shire. Enjoy!

Love me some lovely Jersey ladies!

A class of good-looking mules!

What's a fair without blue ribbon squash???

That's it for the 2021 Oregon State Fair (it ends today) from . . .

You're welcome, Mama Pea!

Your fair looks a lot more like a country fair than the one that's in my area. It's so commercial - all vendors and junk and rides. There's one south of me that is more to my liking and I hope to get down there once things are closer to normal. Whatever that is.

Thanks for the photos; they're wonderful. And you got to see Zach Williams??? Wow. I love his music; too bad Dolly couldn't come with him. "There Was Jesus" is an amazing song.

Susan, our Fair definitely has its commercial side, I just don't spend much time in it. Fortunately, there is much more to it!

Thanks, Sara; I'm glad. :-)

He sang that one towards the end, Mokihana. Told the crowd that they would be singing Dolly's part, after telling the story of how she agreed to collaborate. ;-)

So nice to see 'normal'...a state fair. We've all missed this.

Thanks, Michelle, for the great Fair pictures! I just wish I could have been there with you! It's been a few years since I've gone to a fair, even the County Fair, and I really miss them. That raspberry shake looks absolutely yummy! Was it?? And that beautiful quilt!! I don't see a ribbon on it though. It looks to me, like it should have one. The design, with the flag and the bald eagle on it, just takes my breath away!
I'm glad you took time to sit and spin and make some new friends!
I hope that lovely shire gets well.

It has been SO, SO many years since I went to a fair. Never missed the local county fair as a child and it was a real treat. We went to the Iowa State Fair one time since I've been an adult and that was enough.
