Backtracking to backpacking
If I could summarize my first backpacking trip in 36 years in just two words, they would be – no, not blisters and pain, surprisingly, but huckleberries and lakes! As I said when we got back, I handled the hike in fine fettle, well able to enjoy the beautiful scenery and handy snacking along the way. We set up camp Friday evening, took a long day hike up the PCT on Sabbath, and hiked out on Sunday, covering approximately 15 miles in all (I had a well-fed FitBit!). For the love of indoor plumbing and my own bed, I'm glad it was for only two nights, but it was a great experience. Here is my travelogue in snapshots . . . I hope you enjoy the beauty of Indian Heaven Wilderness in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

Beautiful Michelle. Those lakes are something. You even made a little amphibian friend! A portion of the PCT runs along the ridge we view from our second floor front windows. The trail head access is a mere 2 miles from us on Highway 66. Just saying should the urge to go backpacking ever strike again. I do hear that they have closed a portion of the PCT due to fires.
Minus the true mountains, your area reminds me a lot of ours. Lots of forest and lovely lakes. The trip was just the right amount of time to be carrying your home on your back! Hope you let your men carry the bulk of the backpacking weight! Thanks for the gorgeous pictures.
Looks like a wonderful trip! I never did the backpacking thing but back in the day I sure liked the camping and hiking thing.
Absolutely gorgeous photos!! Thanks for the vicarious hike. Huckleberries and lakes... wow.
