Fun with color – and black and white!

I was admiring some hydrangea bushes in town today when it struck me that they would be a dandy inspiration for dyeing. So I snapped some photos for my friend Laura – spinning and knitting mentor and master dyer. When I downloaded them to my computer, I was disappointed with how the blue turned out, as it was much more vibrant IRL. I played with my color settings a bit, and fell in love with the results. Here are two of the photos, each shown SOOC and altered.

Brian had an activity in town today, so while he was occupied with that, I met a friend and her five-month-old flat-coated retriever puppy Silly at the local dog park. I didn't even know our community had a dog park until my friend suggested meeting there. What a great little place! Since it was a hot day, I left Dozer at home (bulldogs overheat easily) and took Jackson.

Jackson was very interested in reading the local "news," but not very interested in playing with a puppy – or the other two dogs that showed up while we were there.
He did chill out in the shade of a tree for awhile – which he thought a MUCH more dignified option for cooling off than Silly's method of choice:
That girl is an eel!

"Come on in, the water's fine!"

Silly was enjoying the kiddy pool so much – and Jackson was so hot – that I urged him to just try it. He put his front feet in . . . then his back feet. He sat down . . . then . . .
Aaaah!

I have a feeling we'll be doing this again!

That's it for today from . . .

Love the photos - I'll have to try them! And now that summer is almost over, you'll have to get a kiddie pool for your boys. Yes, all of them!!

Oh Michelle, that pup reminded me so much of Nellie, made me tear up. I miss that little dog so much...occasionally, I take the dogs to the dog park at lunch time and Ruby is in heaven. Annie, is more like Jackson, and prefers to sniff around and explore. They've never had the pool when we were there, or Ruby would in it!
The hydrangeas are beautiful. My favorite is SOOC, lovely and soft blue. So pretty!

I love the vibrant blue you created - it's gorgeous (and would look stunning in wool...) And I LOVE the name "Silly" for a dog! Because they so often are, the little darlings. Jackson is so dignified - but that pool must have felt wonderful. Thanks for the great pictures.

I'll keep my eyes open for an end-of-season sale for Jackson and Dozer. Brian wants a BIG pool, which isn't happening!

I've always admired hydrangeas, but can't have them out here; deer candy, you know!

The pool was propped up against the chain link near the pool. Silly was so funny; she'd even roll over in the water!

That's the silliest I've seen Silly; at all other times she's been the most sedate puppy I've ever met! And Jackson can be plenty silly here at home, but I guess we're all more comfortable being ourselves at home. :-)

Yeah, I think he enjoyed his outing. :-)

Aw, Silly really wants to be friends! Love the idea of a dog park. I love hydrangeas too, though ours bloom earlier in the summer. I transplanted my bush next to some daylilies. Can't wait to see the blue and orange!

Love the dog park series. Jackson looks like he was having fun at the end. :-) Carly loves her swimming pool but the other two treat it as a big water bowl and that is all. It's always interesting to see a group of dogs interact and I wish there was a dog park around here. (There is one in the Springfield, but you have to pay a membership and they are very strict).

A kiddy pool for the dogs never crossed my mind - great idea. Thanks!
