Pickin' with porcupines

I had to cry "Uncle" and switch to DPNs on the crown of my Toque, Yo!, as the ends of all but my 16" size 2 Addis are too long for Magic Loop. Knitting with DPNs feels like trying to hold a porcupine to me. :-/ Only 20 more rounds to go. To paraphrase my mother, "I can do anything for 20 rounds."

Slip-sliding away

This morning things still looked cold and snowy, but in reality our world was a giant Slurpee, thanks to rain and warmer temps.

Slurpees don't provide good traction; Rick almost didn't make it out to the paved road with chains on his truck. I hiked out early this afternoon to determine whether or not I could get Brian to his violin lesson in my car.

After taking the photos above I did some shoveling to hedge my bets, and we made it out with only a little excitement. By the time we returned home, it was a non-issue. Oh well; it was fun (for some) while it lasted!

First snow, then ice, now fog. We awoke to a little fog; now it is pea soup out there (only not that colorful)! I do believe this has been our foggiest winter ever….

It is above freezing, so it's "slicker 'n snot" out there, with the sound of drip-drip-dripping all around. Except for barn chores, I've been busy inside. No knitting yet today, but I did get a lot done on my hat last night:

No color here, either, but I love it anyway. It's going much faster than I expected; I should have time to knit up another of Romi's hat patterns during the Romilympics:

I have colorful bulky yarn for this design!

Like boredom, cabin fever is foreign to me (although sometimes I do get antsy when homeschooling is taking way too long and I want to go outside). There are, after all, chores to do regardless of the weather,

The weather continues to be the big news here. We got more snow yesterday and today, adding up to at least nine inches.

Where did those daffodils go???

and then this afternoon it started to rain and a "wintry mix" is forecast through tomorrow morning. Ugh.

My horse is going stir-crazy and I worry about the snow load on our barn roof. I hope it melts off quickly!
