Lions and tigers and bears; oh my!

And now I feel a compelling urge to watch The Wizard of Oz! Somehow, I think it might even make me feel better, especially the music. Maybe that's because I'm listening to I Heard There Was a Secret Chord: Music as Medicine by Daniel Levitin, a neurologist. I recently finished his audiobook Successful Aging; I'm learning a lot and enjoying the education.

All the scary predators seem to be coming for Rick. He found out this week, now that he has a PCP again and had a fasting blood draw, that he has type 2 diabetes – on top of cardiovascular disease. He blames genetics for one, and the statins he takes for the other, even though he's on a low dose of statin and the Mayo Clinic says the risk is small. He does not want to acknowledge lifestyle at all, even though both diseases are known as lifestyle diseases, and he is not happy about making further changes – or with my efforts to cook in a way that would help him. Sigh.

At least Brian has healed up from his self-inflicted injury and got his cast and pins removed this week. He asked if I would take him, and afterwards offered to treat me at a place of my choice. So I finally got to try Local Flow, which advertises smoothies, crepes, and bowls. Kind of hippy-dippy and our crepes were great; it was a nice mother/son outing!
While much of the continent bakes, floods, or suffocates with wildfire smoke, we have been enjoying 'normal' weather and clean air in our little corner of the country. I remember smoke like that here; it was awful and oppressive and I feel so bad for all the humans and animals currently suffering through it. I feel bad for/about a lot of things right now; I have to fight to stay positive and focus on beauty.
Most of the sky shots in this post were taken from horseback.

We picked berries at Neck Road Produce last Sunday.

The barn swallows appear to be starting another clutch.

My Tour de Fleece project is coming along.
That's all the photos I could transfer for now for . . .

Growing old is the pits. And it seems like one thing after another.

Glad to hear you're being treated to "normal" weather! Ours is too hot but at least we have decent rainfall so the plants aren't suffering. Just us in the resultant humidity. :)

The 'horse butt' photo is the best! Such beautiful animals.

Ugh, and my PCP is disturbed I don't want to start statins. She's just going to have to live with it for a while. My numbers aren't enough to convince me to do it. There is a big history of cardiac disease in my family though. As Leigh said, it is hot and sticky here in the hills. Hate this stuff, it was one of the main reasons for moving away from NW Florida. Hope you can convince Rick to take this seriously. Its not a diagnosis to mess around with. Hugs

Leigh, growing old and GRUMPY is even worse! 😉 I would do very poorly in your humidity....

I almost didn't include that photo, Rosalea; thanks for your affirmation!

Sue, women face greater risks from taking statins so I say good for you. I was pressured for years to start taking them and have always declined, because although my total cholesterol number was higher (it has come down some according to this year's results), my 'risk factor' (calculated on HDL vs LDL, I think) has always been extremely low. And I can't convince Rick of ANYthing.....

I just LOVE your spinning. Recently I came across my spindles. And there were some stirrings to give it a try again. I know it just takes practice and patience. I get inspired every time I see you beautiful work.

After resisting for a long time, I started a statin last year. For me, the results have been nothing short of miraculous. Heart/stroke stuff runs in the Irish side of my family, so it was time. I hope Rick will come around at some point. Many people take a GLP-1 to lower their A1c. It that something his PCP might ask him to consider? Glad you got a nice afternoon out with Brian :-)
