A gift to warm the heart and sole

Yesterday a blogger friend I follow mentioned she'd just mailed off a gift knit for a cyberfriend, and didn't think it at all strange to knit for someone she's never met. That same day I got a squishy package in the mail from one of my cyberfriends. Since I bought some of her destash earlier this year, I thought she just might be sending me a gift skein for Christmas; little did I know how woefully short my anticipation would fall!

In that precious package was this:
A pair of stunning socks knit from the wool of Rechel, one of my first two Shetlands! I had sent Adrienne some of Rechel's roving as a gift. She used it to spin her very first sock yarn (something I have yet to do), and then knit (with mind-bogglingly-tiny needles) a pair of pure Shetland socks. I'm gobsmacked! As Beth (in the first link) says, knitters are "the people most likely to appreciate such a gift of time, materials, and love;" well, king-size my appreciation because I'm a spinner, too!

Oh, and today I wore the brown homespun fingerless mitts Adrienne knitted for me last year.

Humbled by love at . . .

  8. I snagged your photo - I realized that in my haste to get them in the mail to you, I forgot to photo them for my project page on Ravelry. I hope you do not mind - and if you do, just let me know :-)
