Can you hear me wail from there???

Well well well. Since my last post I've been slowly and steadily moving photos from my iPhone to my laptop for my next update, and adding notes here to remind me of what I wanted to share. Then tonight my laptop froze up and I had to force it to shut down, then restart it. When it came back to life, my "blog photos" folder was empty. Zip. Zilch. That folder didn't just contain photos for my blog. It had all my saved Poppy photos from infancy on; all my photos of Leo from adoption on; shearing and fleece photos; spinning and knitting photos; and probably hundreds more that I can't think of right now in my dismay. The recent ones are still on my phone so I can search through my files and transfer them again, but the older ones are apparently gone forever. Some of them may be on my external back-up drive, although I can't remember the last time I used it....

Anyway, until I find the heart and make the time for all that, this is all you get from . . .

  1. Oh no. I had one of my external drives die - one with old podcast episodes. I found a local guy who was able to retrieve them and pull them onto a new external drive. Maybe there is someone nearby you who does that kind of work?

  3. I'm so sorry!! I must say that this post is convicting to me. Just last night I got mad at my husband because he had 3 separate copies of our history of digital pictures. I was frustrated at his hoarding tendency that has led to some things being lost. He has saved EVERYTHING and now can't find things. I am convicted that the good side of this is that he does have our pictures backed up (and up and up).

  4. Somehow my "Blog Photos" folder was in my trash, although that is not something I would ever intentionally or even accidentally do. When I restarted my computer, I thought it odd that my trash can showed something in it (restarting it empties it), so I 'emptied trash.' It STILL showed something in my trash can, so I opened it to see what was going on – and saw the folder. I dragged it back to my hard drive, but everything in it was gone. I really doubt the photos could be retrieved since I inadvertently deleted them, either by restarting my laptop or 'deleting trash.'

  5. Oh no. How frustrating and upsetting, as there are photos of all your training and other precious things. Mr FD says it's surprisingly hard to completely delete things but I don't know how easy it is to retrieve them. Is there a computer shop nearby that might be able to help?

    1. Not nearby, no. First I need to connect to my external hard drive to see what I can retrieve; I should have time for that (and to do a new backup!) today. Also, I haven't been able to email myself any current photos since this happened....

  6. Oh, dear!! I'm SO sorry that this happened! As far as I know, once something is in the trash, and is deleted, it's lost forever. But how am I supposed to know? I think I would be grieving very much over this loss, if it happened to me. If you are able to find someone who can retrieve your lost pictures, let us all know!

  7. Losing photos is a big downfall to the digital photography we all use these days. A good shop might be able to "find" them for you.

I'm a blogger - I love comments! Oh, and you DON'T have to check that box proving you're not a robot; you'll still be able to leave your comment without it!
