Distractions in yellow, red and purple

It's too hot to cook . . .. . . but the beans still need to be picked. And look! Our first red tomato!

Not all the plants are handling our record-breaking heat wave with as much grace as the daylilies:

When I have the time (like this morning; Brian rode with Rick), spinning is a wonderful hot-weather pastime. It's very sedentary, alpaca doesn't stick to bare skin and summer fabrics, and my sweaty fingers give me just the right grip on slippery fiber. Pardon me while I indulge at . . .

  3. Do those purple beans turn green when you cook them? I had some of those the other day. They were WONDERFUL! One of my many discoveries in my new, eating healthy, livestyle...

  5. Yes Nancy, those purple beans turn green when cooked. Good flavor plus pretty flowers and beans; can't beat 'em!

  6. We've got day lilies in spades but I can't eat 'em. I'm crossing my fingers that my green tomatoes will turn red before the frost. We've picked exactly two. I spent $12 at the farmer's market on tomatoes because I love them so much. Grow!!!

  7. So do you guys eat daylilies? They're quite good...different colors have different flavors even! I have 2 cookbooks devoted to daylilies, though I've failed to try anyway because I generally just break off the buds and eat them before they get in the house...lol.

  8. Rayna, I THOUGHT I remembered that daylilies are edible! But no, I've never tried any.

  9. Yup. Every part of the daylily is edible if I remember correctly, though I don't know that I'd wanna try the root? LOL.
