Well, knock me over with a feather!

Okay, all bets are off. After putting Brian to bed (Rick had to go on an emergency), I went out to bring the sheep in for the night and there were TWO lambs in with Brava! She waited at least three hours after pushing out lamb #1 to deliver this wee little moorit gulmoget ram lamb:
I'm thinking big brother, who is looking quite handsome as he dries off and straightens up, will be Beau, and the wee surprise, whose newborn fleece feels the silkiest of any so far, will be Boo. What do you think?

Bronwen thinks there must be something interesting on the other side of that pallet.

I think Blackberry and Bramble look like SHEEP now.

Butter thinks something's gotta give soon!

That's it for now from . . .

  2. So cute and what a great surprise! Now you have 4 gulmogets and 1 dark brown.

Love Beau and Boo as names. Quite fitting since Boo was a shock. ;-)

  5. Any horn buds on Boo? With three little guys, I'm hoping one is clean polled.

    Now you have FOUR gulmusketeers.

  6. Congrats! I love the various shades of brown and those gully faces are just so adorable. Things picking up here. The older lambs do look like sheep, it is amazing how quickly they change.

  8. Great names :) Yeah, I had one ewe who I thought was COMPLETELY done last year, lamb was all dried off and everything. Next day she had ANOTHER. Almost exactly 24 hours apart! Both boys did just fine, one went on to be a herd sire, he was the softest ram who almost wasn't was...lol Absolutely gorgeous poll carrier fawn katmoget, SUPER soft wool. I'm hoping to get some updated photos from my friend up north who bought him :)

  9. What a nice and BIG surprise. Just when you think you have these sheep figured out they pull something like that. I think you have done fantastic--4 out of 5 are gulmogets! Wow... And you never know--Butter might pop out twins as well, you just never know.
    Take care,
Tammy (where it's 30 some degrees and trying to snow. :-(

  13. Garrett, there are several in the running for winning the contest; we'll just have to wait and see what Butter's contribution is! Right now, we're at:
    5 lambs
    2 ewes
    3 rams
    4 gulmogets

  15. Wow! Three hours later! She sure took her time about that! I think Boo is a hilarious name for this little "surprise" lamb! I hope we will have some dark colored lambs this year too. Yours are all so sweet. Not to say that I don't love our little white ones, but I like a mix of colors too! I think that Kitkat, our moorit ewe, is most likely to throw some brown ones.

  17. I had a ewe do that several years ago - a very fun surprise! Your lambs are beautiful. It sounds like you had a wonderful time at the beach and yesterday was truly glorious!!!

  18. Ahhh! What cuties! All of them! I can't really tell one from another - I don't know gulmogets from moorits from katmogets - but they're all adorable!

Has it been an easy lambing season so far? Sometimes I read about difficult births, one right after another, and it makes me glad to read about happy, easy lambings.

  19. The little lambs are very cute Michelle! The newest little one has the most adorable face.
How was the beach retreat? I'm wishing I would have gone and spared my poor toe.

  20. Yes Kathleen, it has been a completely problem-free lambing season so far, with one maiden yearling to go. I think the fact that the girls have been out on pasture this winter instead of more confined as in the past has helped. And just to help you out, that one solid dark lamb is a moorit (dark brown), and all the others who have dark bodies and light bellies are gulmoget-patterned.

Lorie, the retreat was wonderful; wish you could have been there!

  21. I have loved watching for the lambs at your place, Michelle. Didn't breed this year with all the "stuff" going on. I am so glad everyone is OK and growing by lambie-leaps and bounds! :)
