They're playin' our song

Some animals come into my life on a fragment of song, making that song unshakably theirs. I don't remember this happening when I was young, which may be due to my memory rather than to a mid-life phenomenon – or maybe my mental music catalogue wasn't big enough yet. At any rate, Dozer's song was "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face;" Lance's is "Hello Love."

This morning Rick did the pre-purchase exam on my 'Christmas pony' and gave the nod. As I prepared to post an announcement on Instagram/Facebook with a pretty head shot, the obvious hit me. Do you see it? Can you hear it?
"Do you see what I see? A star, a star, dancing in the night with a tail as big as a kite." And it's even a Christmas carol!

Meet Umpqua Andromeda, my girl Stella, a 2016 Morgan. She is a clean slate, basically halter-trained and able to have her feet trimmed and that's about it. My husband and son both seem to think I'm half crazy for taking on a project that may or may not turn out to be suitable for dressage; they don't realize how much I look forward to such a project! I'm hoping we can pick her up on Sunday so we can start getting to know one another and build a partnership. I think Lance is going to be a great big brother....

Here are a few more photos from today. As you can see, there's a lot of room for physical development (and hopefully HEIGHTH) through groceries and conditioning, but slowly, slowly.

You will certainly see more photos of her here, but most of Stella's story will be posted on my Dances With Horses blog (under "Links" in sidebar at right). We don't want to crowd the sheep off of Boulderneigh! 😊

That's it for now from . . .

I'm so happy for you Michelle. You've had some rough patches this past year and deserve something wonderful!

You know, I know nothing about horses, but I can tell she is a beautiful animal. She seems to carry herself really well - like with pride. Maybe it is just her youth, but there seems to be an attitude coming through the pictures. Like a "look at me - I am beautiful" attitude. And she certainly is. Enjoy! You most certainly deserve this beauty!

She looks like a bundle of potential. Will you be posting her papers ? I ask because my oldest and good friend has been breeding Morgan’s her entire adult life and there were some Oregon roots in the breedings she did in her last years before her retirement from breeding.

Can't wait to welcome her HOME, Jean! Hopefully tomorrow!

Leigh, the last several years have been pretty rocky, but I don't know that that entitles me to anything; it's just life. But I am so thankful and excited that this door opened!

Elaine, I hope that doesn't mean she turns into a diva! ;-) She was mostly a bit overwhelmed; I don't think she's ever had that many people around her or had that much handling before, but handled it all pretty well.

Amen to the many years, Mama Pea!

Jeanne, I think her physical appearance is going to change a lot in the next few years, so I want to document it well. But she is beautiful to me right now, too, and YES, I am so excited!

Goatldi, you can share this link with your friend: https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/umpqua+andromeda LOTS of well-known Morgan names several generations back. She looks quite different than her full siblings, so there is obviously lots of genetic variation to be expressed in there.

Congratulations on your new Morgan Horse. She is related to our Coco ( VJC Mystical Enchantress) through Troutbrook Hallmark. Coco is the best trail horses ever. She is very forward going, but when it comes to surprises she never spooks.... 21 years old now. We also have King karrot who is retired at age 32.

:) So happy for you...

I used to have a mare named Stella too. Only my Stella was a tall, lanky chestnut with a snowflake blanket across her hips and loins.
