Pruning contributes to stronger structure, and when done correctly, will actually increase #s of production (think fewer but BIGGER fruit, rather than lots of puny fruit). The flowering plums get very twiggy with lots of water shoots, a growth habit that contributes to disease and breakage, so while I will get less flowers when I prune it, I will have a healthy, longer-lived tree.Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01550786937196525098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31671898.post-81849948009889323282010-02-08T14:40:35.848-08:002010-02-08T14:40:35.848-08:00Everything looks and sounds great! Oh, and sweaty? :-D We're gearing up for a snow dump starting tonight and lasting until Wednesday . . . It has been warmer than average in our area since the first of the year, which means most of our precip falls as rain even in the Cascade Mountains. And if there is not sufficient snowpack in the mountains to slowly and steadily melt into the reservoirs, then much of the Willamette Valley (namely Portland!) suffers a drought in the summer. Not to mention the slump at the ski resorts now....Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01550786937196525098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31671898.post-72168947539564891502010-02-08T12:15:39.810-08:002010-02-08T12:15:39.810-08:00Oh!
