The elephant in my room

In the midst of life going on pretty much as usual here, Thursday night I called to tell my mom what has been decided about Brian's high school graduation. (Outside, students and limited staff appropriately distanced, limited family confined to their vehicles.) She mentioned being worried about Daddy, which is not an uncommon comment. She also mentioned that Texas is now offering free COVID-19 testing; okay, interesting. Then she said that Daddy has been feeling punky for a couple weeks now, aching all over 😟; oh, he had a couple days of fever 😳; oh, and this week he lost his sense of taste and smell 😱. Yeah; at that point flashing red lights and sirens started going off in my head, and my heart dropped to the basement. She got him in to be tested Friday morning (and no, they wouldn't test her, even though she lives with him and is an 80-year-old asthmatic, because she had no symptoms; I guess they don't believe in asymptomic carriers in TX) and now we wait three to five days. I've recovered from my initial panic and had a nice, long chat with my dad Friday. There has also been a flurry of texts between my sister and me. Her family is taking this very seriously; we (with the exception of the teen) are taking this very seriously. It is beyond frustrating to know and love people who believe certain 'talking heads' and DON'T take this (as) seriously. Praying that the lesson isn't learned in the most heartbreaking manner.

Obviously, this is a situation for concern. I know your dad is "older" and has underlying health problems, but try to hold the thought in your heart that he may not test positive. Even if he does, he might well not suffer the worst outcome. This isn't happening to me so my emotions aren't coming into play as yours understandably are. But do try to remember, "Worrying is using your imagination to create something you don't want to happen." You have a strong faith, Michelle, so remember that, too. Sending hugs and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear this and I pray the result is not as you suspect. My best thoughts and prayers to all of you.

Mama Pea, yes, I have faith in the ultimate outcome, but am SO not ready to lose my dad's love, support and wisdom yet! Even when all parties have faith, the ones left behind still have to deal with the gaping hole for the rest of THEIR lives. I do feel hopeful that since he's had no coughing or breathing issues, he will recover. He and my mom are both strong and healthy in SPITE of underlying conditions. My step-brother, on the other hand, is not....

Thank you, FFG. I will keep the blog updated as I get news.

Oh gosh, this is very worrisome indeed. It is the news that I have yet to hear in my own family - of course, my family worries about my husband and I since we are the oldest - but I know that Covid is dangerous for ANYONE! Little prayer for you and your family.

I hope it's good news...but if it's not, I hope your dad has it mildly...but if he doesn't, I pray God will give you all the strength to get through what has to be got through.

Prayers for your family, I hope for the best. One of my friend's mother 102 years old living in NYC did get infected and survived. I wish all the medias and doctors would promote more about the vitamins D, C and Zinc to prevent this by boosting people's immune system. Stay healthy and safe.

Lifting this whole matter in prayer! I pray especially for your dad and mom, but for you as well! I know how a thing like this can scare a person. Trust in the Lord!
I will continue to pray...

Well crud. That's not news you ever want to hear. As others have said, I hope that if it is COVID-19 that your dad will have a very mild case of it, and that your mom will avoid it completely. I'm so sorry this is happening, Michelle, and I'm holding you and yours in the light of strength and perfect health.
