My good friend Sara, with more experience in these things than any one person should have, emailed me, "Good dogs . . . lots and lots of great days and one really bad one." I keep repeating this to myself. Yes, lots and lots of great days....

So sorry Michelle.
I think this poem by KIpling says it all:
THERE is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.
When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find - it's your own affair, -
But ... you've given your heart to a dog to tear.
When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!),
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone - wherever it goes - for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear!
We've sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent,
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve;
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long -
So why in - Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?
Oh no! I'm so sorry Michelle. :(
When you give your heart to a pet - dog or cat - it is a heart break just waiting in the wings - in the back stage of your life. And yet it is so worth it to have that little soul with you for the time God gave him because they give sooo much more that the heart break they cause.
What a beautiful little puppy he ways.
Heart aches for you. Tears.
So very sorry Michelle.
It's never easy. And sometimes very hard. He was such a good boy. And such a handsome fellow. Tears this morning reading this. So, so sorry.
I can only echo your word - Gutted. So deeply woven into our lives, our animals become one with us, and we with them. We are all the better for it - and hurt together when we must endure their losses. May our Lord's peace be with you.
It seems the older we get the more we have to deal with this sort of thing. When I hear of someone going thru this, I find my emotions about my pup are still very close to the surface. Prayers and hugs and hopes that good memories outweigh the sad ones.
My heart goes out to you...…..
I'm sorry for your lost, HUGS
Oh, Michelle. I am so heart-broken for you. All my love to you.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. What a wonderful companion you had.
I'm so sorry that sad day has come. You loved him well for a long time. Hugs to all of you.
And this is the hardest part of loving them so much - - that final goodbye. So very sorry for the loss of your sweet boy. Once some of the heartbreak subsides, you will have all the beautiful memories of him to console you.
Oh Michelle, I am so very sorry. Jackson was a dear, sweet soul and I know how much you loved him. ((hugs))
I am so very sorry. I'm heartbroken
for you. ~Janis in Oregon
I understand your loss, Michelle. Jackson was such a beautiful boy... God gives us our furbabies for special reasons, even though we may not understand the whole thing. I'm thankful you had Jackson. I know he was a treasure!
{{{hug}}}
Michelle, my heart hurts for you, and I am also so grateful that you gave Jackson such a wonderful home. What a special boy, and I know he'll live forever in your heart.
So sad to read this post. Please remember when a treasure becomes a memory, the memories then become the treasures.
My heart is breaking for you, my friend. I'm so very sorry.
I'm so, so sorry. We have lost many precious dog friends over the years, 3 in the past 4 years. They give so much love.
