Aftermath

Last night Rick went out and sprayed the hornets' nest, but didn't grab my bucketful of apples. So by dawn's eerie light, I headed up to the apple tree to collect it. Too late; the deer had polished off all but this half. I would have picked the last few apples on the tree to have something for my time, effort, and pain, but there were still a few nasties flying around. I didn't tarry.

On the positive side, that recipe I posted yesterday and made for supper is a KEEPER.

That's it for now from . . .

Did the deer leave a thank you note? I'll just bet they come back for another night or two looking for another delicious bucketful.

We just discovered and removed a hornets' nest like that attached to one of the shelves behind our garage. I don't like stings of any kind but hornet stings do a number on me. Sorry you lost all your apples.

Wow! That is a big nest! How is your arm? I've been stung by those critters too.
I love MamaPea's comment!!!

I'm sure they will, Mama Pea. I've put bucketsful on our front porch in years past and they've come right up on the concrete to nibble on them! But this is the first time they've cleaned me out, I suspect because there are few ground falls this lean apple year.

FFG, fortunately those were just the apples on our earliest-ripening tree.

Jeanne, my arm was fine after the baking soda did its work . . . until today when it started itching persistently.

Oh no! What a heartbreak about the apples. At any rate, your deer are happy!

I'm going to have to try that recipe! Sounds like a gardener's delight. I've roasted veggies before but this is a new twist. Might be a perfect accompaniment for the Cypriot cheese I've just made!

Holy you know what - that's a HUGE hornet nest!!!! I'm glad you didn't fall off the ladder. Once Rick sprays the nest, will he be able to pull it down?

I've had stingers of some sort that nested in the ground. My cousin got stung once. I went out at dusk and foamed them multiple times.

Mokihana, I did get stung but only once. It could have been so much worse!

Have you tried the recipe, Leigh? It is DELICIOUS, and I'll bet it would pair beautifully with your new cheese.

Elaine, they probably think I FINALLY got the memo; two of my neighbors feed the deer.

Adrienne, thankfully I wasn't up on the ladder when I heard the buzzing. Rick sprayed the nest twice, then knocked it down and stomped on it.
