Today's labors

Brian and I picked 68# of blueberries today (at the farm of one of Rick's clients), resulting in 12 packed gallon bags in the freezer and a 2# container in the frig for topping breakfast cereal. In addition, I finally got all that basil made into a double batch of pesto.

That's it for today from . . .

When my mom was alive and working (20+ years ago) she had a co-worker who drove up to New Jersey to a blueberry farm and bought 20 pound boxes of blueberries back for anyone who purchased them. They we so good and cheap even then - a dollar a pound. Those days are gone now, but I have fond memories of buying 40 pounds of blueberries at a time and freezing them.

Now that's a good way to get your blueberries! I'm grateful for our own blueberry bushes here in our garden but must admit sometimes it gets kinda old having to pick for an hour or so every day when they come in. Would it be better to get it all done in one stint? I'm not sure. :o) Anyway, you must feel good having all that goodness stashed away in the freezer already.

Yep, they used to be $1/lb. here, too, Elaine!

Our blueberry bushes have all but died, Mama Pea, in spite of Rick's care and attention (although I don't think he watered them as much as they needed – or he thought he did). I think it is nice to knock out a task like this in one day if you can, but grown "free" at home is hard to beat!

Thanks for cheering us on, Sara!

Oh my goodness, that's a lot of blueberries!! Most I've ever picked was 58 # in two sessions. But they are so wonderful, aren't they?

Yes, they ARE wonderful, FFG, and Rick uses them as a daily "prescription" for heart problems.

You put me to complete shame, me with my paltry 10 pounds of blueberries. Those look so perfect, too!
