What a way to start May! (post #2)

The sun is finally rising to the north of our stand of firs now, but it takes an earlier bird to catch a sunrise. I got to see one this morning because I had to give three overnight guests an early ride to town before going to work. Totally worth it. :-D

We're down to eight hens, two of them elderly Speckled Sussex. But the six younger black hens (three Easter Egger and three Australorp) kicked off this month right:

I posted a pretty flower picture over on Instagram this morning; to me, May Day means flowers, not protests. I remember weaving ribbons in plastic berry baskets and filling them with flowers for May Day; does anyone else? I also got those pretty orange flowers planted in front of the house Sunday, after cleaning up that little planting area. The green "mounds" are the New York asters, coming back nicely.
Happy memories at . . .

Lovely sunrise Michelle. I love that it is getting lighter out earlier. I am almost feeding in dawn, but still need my headlamp in the dark tack room. It is fleeting though...
The lamb post was wonderful too.

I love the birdsong early in the morning, just as dawn starts. That speaks "Spring" to me. I usually miss the sunrise - we have so many hills and mountains that you really don't get the spectacular photo ops that you have. I love the longer days.

I find myself waking earlier and earlier these days of an earlier dawn. (Not sure if that's a good thing or not!)

As a child we did make May Baskets and sneak out early in the morning on May 1st to hand them on the front doors of neighbors. Too bad that tradition hasn't survived. It was sweet.

I was just reading a spinner's post where she proudly displayed her natural colored Cotten yarn which I swear is the same colors as your eggs - beautiful !!

You must be a very early riser, Theresa!

I agree, Susan; the sound of the birds singing is a great way to start the day.

Since I don't fall asleep easily OR sleep well, I don't think it's a good thing, Mama Pea. :-/

I do love the subtle colors of the eggs, Sharon!
