I can hardly believe this

For the second week in a row, Thursday is a snow day for Brian!

Fortunately I got back to McMinnville early in the afternoon to drop off my MIL before the snow started sticking. I needed to run three errands after that, and by the time I headed home, the roads were snowy and slick. I drove slowly, thankful not to encounter any 4WD yahoos – you know, the ones who drive way too fast, not always remembering that their braking capability is as compromised as the the rest of ours. I turned up our hill and managed to get 3/4ths of the way to our gravel cross-road. But after slowing to round a corner and starting up the steepest stretch I lost all traction. For a few tense moments my car slipped backwards down the hill before I managed to stop it, still on the road and in my own lane. I called Rick and croaked out my predicament; he and Brian had just gotten home so they got back in his F-350 vet truck to tow me to our lane. Here is my view while I waited:

You can see a car ahead of me on the left (there is another pulled off on the right); the driver started up the hill on foot as I watched.

By the time I got home, I decided to follow the Yarn Harlot's lead and make roasted vegetable soup.
While these were cooking, I finished my nephew's Christmas cabled scarf. I should have taken a photo of it then, because when I gave it a bath, the yarn went completely limp! I have it drying on the back of the couch tonight; I'm hoping by morning it is dry enough to mail – and has regained some of its spring. :-/

Tomorrow is a crucial day for month-end prep at my part-time job, so unless I hear from someone I will drive our 4WD pick-up to town.

That reminds me – I have to draw a name in the morning! There's still a little time left if you want to put your name in the hat for homemade biscotti; just go to this post and leave a comment along with your email addy.

That's it for tonight from . . .

That is a terrible feeling when you start to slide backwards and feel you have no control. The good thing is that you weren't on a busy road with other cars in the same predicament! And so fortunate Rick was at home to come to the rescue. Ah, yes. Good ol' winter time!

I kinda wish we had more "weather" on the coast. Supposed to be fairly icy tomorrow and rumor has it boss said he'll close the office if it is. Fingers crossed, sorry! Not gonna lie, would love a day at home that is not a regular day off.

I was VERY thankful for both the mostly deserted road AND an available husband with 4WD, Theresa!

Well, I didn't get a day at home, Ruth; I went to work!
