Ai-yi-yi!

We walked into the house this afternoon after church and potluck to a blast furnace!

We're not sure what's wrong, but something most definitely is. This morning before leaving, I closed the windows and set the AC thermostat at 78 degrees, knowing that the outside temperature was headed for the upper 90s at least. When we arrived home and it was far hotter inside (poor dogs!) than outside (at 96°), I thought I'd messed up somehow, but no. The heat was set for 50°, the AC was set for 78°, and the control was set for 'Auto' – but HOT air was blowing from all the vents! Rick fiddled with the thermostat and thought he had cool air blowing before he left to take Brian to a friend's, and the dogs and I retreated to the blessedly cool daylight basement with lots of water. Thirty minutes later when I went upstairs to let the dogs out (they had guzzled that water), hot air was blowing from the vents again. I turned everything to 'Off' and retreated again, trying not to panic.

Our old, half-dead heat pump cooled just fine; it was the heating function that had quit. This is the first time we've used the cooling function on the new heat pump; the heating function worked last winter. Guess we should have kept the old one for cooling and the new one for heating! Just kidding; trying to keep a positive outlook until we can have someone look at things. Of course, we are experiencing the hottest weather of the year right now . . . of course.

That's it from the oven at . . .

Michelle, that sounds miserable! How disappointing for a new heat pump. I hope it isn't too difficult or expensive to fix!

Something similar happened to us, only in the dead of winter when temps were down into the teens. Our heat pump was only 3 years old, too. Fortunately we had the woodstove, but it couldn't heat the whole house.

I hope the people who installed your heat pump will fix it right away...and not charge you!

Hopefully this his is covered under some sort of warrentee. And you poor dogs. How miserable for them stuck in a place that was overheating. Hope all turns out ok.

Good thing you were gone for only a few hours rather than an overnight or some such. Next week, the dogs are going to ask to please go to church with you! Hope you can get it fixed quickly . . . arrrgh.

Ugh. Can you and the dogs go outside and find some shade? What a bummer.

It IS miserable and disappointing, Mama Pea. We shall see on the fixing.

I'd much rather lose heat than AC, Mokihana; for that reason I wasn't in in hurry to replace our old heat pump. Now I REALLY wish we hadn't!

Yes, it was scary to think that a few hours longer and we could have lost the dogs, RK. Have yet to see about the warranty....

Thankfully, Mama Pea, our weather is supposed to moderate tomorrow and be cooler and wet again by next weekend.

A, the daylight basement is the coolest spot around; SO thankful to have it!

Michelle, I hope today the powers that be will be out to get your AC going..free of charge!
Hot here too but I'm thinking we cool off better at night. Keep a lot of popsicles on hand. :-)

Oh, no! What an awful surprise that must have been! I hope you can get it straightened out soon - before 'real' summer hits. I can bear the cold so much easier than the heat.
