If a tree falls in the forest...

apparently we don't hear it!

This morning I was riding Lance in our arena (I usually blog about that on my other blog) and noticed a downed tree in the adjoining woods. I'm not sure how long it's been there; I've been riding catch as catch can and may not have noticed it for awhile. We had some high winds last week, but this doesn't look like a wind fall. The tree, a good sized Doug fir with at least a 12" diameter, broke off 10-12' above the ground. Fortunately, it didn't come down on any structures, fences, or animals; it will be put to good use as firewood next winter.

That's it for today from . . .

Wow! I imagine that made some noise, too. I missed the falling of the entire top of a big beech tree right outside the back deck. I blame it on the windows being closed.
