Meanwhile...

The weather has returned to hot (for fall) and dry, and business has been slow. You can't exactly make lemonade out of that, but my husband has been making good use of the opportunity to do some needed maintenance on our house. He has been busy cleaning and sealing the deck and repainting the stained chimney, and still plans to repaint the deck door trim. He and Brian started spreading manure last week, but one of the tires on our old spreader bit the dust and a new one had to be ordered and arrived today. Now the question is, can he get it all done before the rain returns this weekend?
My pots were moved off the deck, so I almost missed this rose's last hurrah!
The gophers have been hard at work in the lawn below the deck.  :-/
The raccoons have turned my riding arena into a highway!
One of the neighbor's free-range hens, ranging.
More local construction, but not quite as close as the winery.
That's it for now from . . .

Good for hubby getting on with the outdoor jobs. We've been doing our deck railings (in England) but it's raining again now and is predicted the same all week. I enjoyed your photos..you have such different wildlife to us!

Michelle, your home is beautiful. Between thunder and rain storms, I've been doing outside work to get ready for winter. It's a mad rush!

Oh my gosh, the raccoons! That's a family for sure! Does Rick ever think of working for someplace like Bayer, where I used to work?

It's great to be able to take advantage of the unseasonable weather. We are now getting the rain we did not get all summer. It is really putting a crimp in my to-do list!

I enjoy your photos of France, Maggie!

Thank-you, Sandra. It's not a grand old home like yours or Maggie's, but I do like it. We took an existing plan and adapted it for our site and preferences.

Mary Ann, I'm pretty sure a career change like that would require a move, and we're not looking to do that.

Susan, I think thecrazysheeplady got all our summer rain!

That deck is wonderful. Bet it's a great place to watch your sheep.
