Cold feet

Bitterly cold (for here) this morning. I couldn't get either frost-free spigot at the barn to work, so had to schlepp water for the sheep and chickens from the garage. Everyone seems hale and hearty, though, sufficiently feathered/fleeced/furred for withstanding the temps. Well, all except Dozer. Even with a coat on, he would rather not venture outside, thankyouverymuch. Of course, I must insist occasionally.

The wild birds are appreciating the black oil sunflower seed and electric dog dish of water on the deck. A couple nights ago the raccoons discovered both as well.

Despite constant feeding, the woodstove isn't managing to keep the house warm, exactly, but one can warm up nicely in front of it. I have an electric blanket on my bed and Brian has a down duvet on his, so we are sleeping in cozy comfort. It is well.

That's it for now from . . .

Bitter here too, below zero by about 5 degrees right now I expect that to drop closer to dawn like it always does. The
wood boiler Rube does a good job, the house uses the same hot water/radiator system as is on the oil boiler, we just heat that water with wood instead of oil, but fill times are certainly not their usual 12 hours. We have to run everything hotter out there which means more wood consumption. 70 heat degree units ( the spread between what you got outside and the temp you want inside) is a whole lot....Stay warm!

We had -6° this morning, but comfy inside. Now at 9:30 a.m., it's up to -2°. Does it seem as if winter has come really early all over the country this year!

We haven't had any snow, but bitter cold and wind, wind, wind - a lot of the plants are just crispy critters. Elliott has been banging on anything that will bang - I think maybe his wool coat is creating static electricity and he's getting little shocks and it's just making him mad. Poor little guy. Stay warm! T.
